A Warm PRISMA Welcome to Canadian Cellist Amanda Forsyth

PRISMA is excited to announce the famous Canadian cellist Amanda Forsyth as a guest artist at PRISMA 2015. Ms. Forsyth will perform the second cello concerto of Victor Herbert with the Pacific Philharmonic on June 27. She will also take part in the chamber music concert with the C minor string quartet of Johannes Brahms with the other string faculty.

Born in South Africa, Ms. Forsyth moved to Canada as a child and began playing cello at age three. She became a protg of William Pleeth in London, and later studied with Harvey Shapiro at the Juilliard School.  After two seasons with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra she became the youngest principal ever selected by the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra-a post she occupied for six years.  She was appointed principal cello of the National Arts Centre Orchestra in 1998.

"Every soloist -- especially every young female cellist -- has to contend with the long shadow of Jacqueline Du Pr, whose performances and recordings remain touchstones. The remarkable performance by Amanda Forsyth banished comparisons. Projecting a big, burnished timbre, the young Canadian showed herself in sympathy with Elgar's work." SUN-SENTINEL

Become a Member

It's time to renew your PRISMA membership for the upcoming season. If you've already taken out your membership for 2015, thank you so much for your patronage and generosity. If you are considering purchasing a membership, why not do it right away? Your support enables the PRISMA team to continue the preparations for the 2015 festival.

We appreciate support at every level. For those who can afford a higher level of support, we've increased the benefits at the Patron ($500) level to include two complimentary All-Access Passes and admission for two to the spring special event - a wine and cheese reception or similar function.

Your membership does so much more than just support the symphony. PRISMA members enable the festival to provide special educational opportunities for the youth of Powell River and to try out new innovations in the program. Plus, we rely on members for ideas and suggestions to make the offerings better each year. PRISMA members are the heart of the festival on which all other parts depend.

Your support is meaningful in other ways, too. Membership participation sends the message to government and private funders that PRISMA deserves their increased support. Last year, we received our first grant from the BC Arts Council, and this year we hope to get support from Canada, too.

For more information on becoming a member, visit our website. Thank you for supporting our festival.
