Wanted: New Youth Poet Laureate for Edmonton
August 27, 2018

The City of Edmonton Youth Council is accepting applications for Edmonton’s next Youth Poet Laureate.

This is an opportunity for young poets (ages 13-23) to share their distinct and creative voices with Edmontonians. The successful poet will perform at public events, write two original poems and create a project to engage youth in poetry and civic life.

This position was created by the City of Edmonton and the City’s Youth Council. Edmonton has a proud tradition of poets laureates within Canada and continues to be a leader in celebrating the work of youth poets. This includes the City’s current Youth Poet Laureate, Grayson Thate, whose poetry is often inspired by the sociopolitical climate and undertakes advocacy and education work within LGBTQ+ communities.

The term runs from November 1, 2018 until August 31, 2019. Applications will be accepted until October 1, 2018. To apply, visit ceyc.ca/youthpoet
