PSALLAM! RSCM America News & Info
May 2013
Greetings!

We are so looking forward to another exciting summer of Training Courses! At the end of this e-mail you will find links to each of our nine courses' websites, along with information about the available registration slots remaining at several of them. June, July, and August are just around the corner, but we at RSCM America are also excited about two other events that will take place in the months ahead--one in Fall 2013 and another in Winter 2014-15.

First, do you ever find yourself reading through new music--looking for originality, freshness, depth, and integrity--and coming away disappointed? Creativity and musical integrity are not limited to any one style, period, age group, or idiom. RSCM America is of the opinion that there are many American composers/church musicians that write music of quality, often because a choir simply needs something for a particular Sunday or event. Some of these composers may not be well known or published, yet deserve a wider audience. In order to identify talented composers across the country, and to promote the creation of new music of quality for choirs, we are pleased to announce an Anthem Competition for Fall 2013! Watch the next issue of the RSCM America Newsletter for all of the pertinent details.

The next Newsletter will also include details about a marvelous opportunity that RSCM America has planned--a week-long adult choir trip to England as choir-in-residence at Westminster Abbey, directed by me, your President! We will be looking for a maximum of 16 sopranos, 8 altos, 8 tenors, and 8 basses, chosen by audition, to join us from December 29, 2014-January 2, 2015. All participants will make their own flight arrangements and will stay together in the Holiday Inn Express, Limehouse, a short tube ride from the center of London. Stay tuned for all of the specifics! This trip is 19 months away, but putting aside $100 a month starting now would cover the basic costs!

Summertime is Conference Time--And We Need You!
VOICE for LIFE logo RSCM America is working with GIA Publications, Inc. to schedule an informative Industry Lab Session on the VOICE for LIFE curriculum at the 2013 National Association of Pastoral Musicians (NPM) Convention in Washington, D.C., July 29-August 2. We are looking for one RSCM member to give this 30-minute presentation, which will focus on the tools available through the RSCM and VfL that can help to train choirs of any kind at any skill level. GIA will offer a small stipend to the presenter and may be able to assist with hotel and transportation costs. We would also like to find several RSCM members to help staff the VfL portion of GIA's booth in the exhibit area. If you are going to the NPM Convention this summer and wish to help, please contact Andrew or Kevin!

RSCM America will have a presence at a number of other conferences as well, including the Conference for Choirmasters and Organists at St. Thomas Church Fifth Avenue this week and the AAM Conference in Denver, June 30-July 4. Are you going to a conference or convention other than those mentioned? Would you like to take along some RSCM brochures to hand out if you find yourself in a discussion about the RSCM? Contact Kevin at the office to request materials!

RSCM News from Around the World
The ACT Branch of the RSCM in Canberra, Australia is sponsoring an anthem competition with a deadline of May 17. Click here and then click on the "Composition Competition" tab

There are many activities taking place in Scotland, including an RSCM Celebration Day in Edinburgh

This is of local interest, even though it was back in November 2012, and may be an idea for other churches to raise funds for scholarships--a Soup and Bread Supper at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Port Jervis, N.Y. to raise funds for their choristers going to the King's College Course

RSCM events in South Africa this month include a Marimba  and Choir Workshop!

An interesting concept from RSCM New Zealand--the central office maintains a rental music library with an extensive list of pieces
