So far, we are off to a great start. In our first week, we collected $936 towards our goal - that's enough for two sheep and two goats...plus a little more! And our children are coming up with fun and creative ways to earn money for this service project. Check out our first story below:
Julia & Mary Kate
5th Grader Julia came up with the idea to have a neighborhood bake sale. She and her younger sister Mary Kate, along with the help of two of their friends, baked brownies, chocolate chip cookies and Snickerdoodles.
All the baked goods sold in about 90 minutes. Many people just stopped by their stand and offered donations when they found out about Fill the Ark. They even had repeat customers come back for more! And you know what? Their cause was contagious! Other kids from the neighborhood stopped by to help them sell the goodies. How cool is that?
Julia and Mary Kate are most interested in the Sheep for this service project. Their grandmother is from New Zealand, so they are familiar with the importance of sheep for farmers and their economy. Together with their friends, the girls raised $90 in their bake sale. Great job, ladies! We hope their story inspires you and your children to think outside the box for ways to help us Fill the Ark. We'd love to hear your stories, too. Send us a picture and tell us what you're doing for us to share in our next update.
Our goal this year is to raise $5,000 to purchase an Ark from Heifer International. A Gift Ark donation includes two water buffalos, two cows, two sheep and two goats, along with bees, chicks, rabbits and more! All PSR classes from Preschool through 8th Grade are encouraged to participate, and support from the parish is greatly appreciated!
Keep bringing in your quarters to PSR and EDGE each week, or donate online. Visit our
PSR Programs & Events page for details, and donate online with the l
ink to the
E-Giving page. You can also follow our progress on our
Twitter pages throughout Lent as we work toward our goal to Fill the Ark.
Thank you for your support!
This Lent, let's fast, pray and give together to help end poverty.
