At our brunch, medical students and seasoned clinicians will share stories that have inspired and challenged them. We will discuss strategies that allow us to serve others with integrity, absolute respect and unconditional positive regard while avoiding burnout and compassion fatigue.

Bringing Balance to the Lives of Young Men with Peaceful Posse
|
Peaceful Posse is a program of PSR Phila based in the Abbottsford Homes, a housing project in the East Falls section of Philadelphia. Every Wednesday evening for the past 17 years, Corey Davis has been mentoring young boys from 8-18 in the housing project.
During meetings, he begins with a check on how everyone is doing and inquires about the events of their past week. The boys share their insights with Corey. More significantly, because of his long standing relationship, they have come to trust him and it makes it easier to learn about conflicts and school issues. Corey uses these opportunities to talk about conflict resolution, how to disagree peacefully and how to deal with anger.
This month they worked on career development. They received business casual clothes for interviews, and had training on how to prepare and conduct oneself for a job interview. Finally, they attended a PSR mock interview meeting. Six interviewers spoke to the youth for five minutes, then they rotated around the room giving the youth the opportunity to learn about different jobs, discuss their unique interests and talents and ask questions. These speed interviews offered a diverse opportunity to hone communication skills.
But, it’s not all work, and Peaceful Posse includes time to enjoy activities for fun. This year the boys have visited an indoor trampoline arena and Dorney Park. The program is supported by a grant from the Family Practice and Counseling Network.

#1: Power Toward a Just Future Parade

The Carnival de
Resistance, alongside Green Justice Philly, is organizing this parade of color and spectacle to raise public awareness about the solarization of Philadelphia and to press the city to integrate social justice goals into its transition to renewable energy. The parade will be marching for the use of renewable and clean energy sources; an end to power generation using fossil fuels, including fracked gas; and support for locally generated solar energy.

Adelphia Gateway Pipeline: they take our name, but not our input
On May 31, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) held a public scoping meeting for the proposed Adelphia Gateway pipeline.
PSR's own Coryn Wolk, along with a friend Meg, attended this meeting, asked pressing questions, and presented verbal comments. However, when Adelphia submitted the comments they'd received from organizations and residents at this meeting to the FERC, Ms. Wolk's name was neither present nor was her comment submitted.
None of the verbal comments were transcribed; none of the people who spoke out were recognized. "FERC and Adelphia can't erase our concerns with a single stroke of bureaucracy, though". We urge you to read more about this event, and find out how you can get involved

PSR Opposes EPA Effort To Censor Science
The EPA is proposing a new rule, “Strengthening Transparency in Regulatory Science.” Under the guise of transparency, this rule raises a serious concern: the EPA will only consider scientific studies that have publicly released all of their underlying data. However, many important studies draw from medical records or private information gathered from participants in
confidentiality.
This rule would force investigators to infringe on the privacy of participants or disallow these studies from policy rule making. Either case benefits the industries, of course. Click
