Please make a contribution to PSR Philadelphia that is meaningful to you. Your generosity will enable us to carry on doing the work that is so important to you and our future generations.
At the Philadelphia chapter of Physicians for Social Responsibility, our work is that of progress. We are a small but powerful, public health, 501c3 non-profit organization, whose mission is to promote social responsibility by protecting health, the environment and communities through education, training, direct service, and advocacy. Our current programs focus on Environmental Health and Working with Schools.
We are in the process of changing some of our outreach and aim to keep you abreast of all the wonderful work we are doing. As a lean organization, we too often get busy doing our work and forget to take the time to share with you all of the things we have done and will be doing. Our website is changing to better reflect our ongoing work. It includes ways for you to get involved, to support our work with donations and a place for you to share your thoughts with us. Our social media presence is increasing and our many opportunities are available for you to join in our important work.
We want and need your support in the days, months and years ahead of us. Like so many of you out there doing good work, we know that we have our work cut out for us as we head toward the future together.
Walter Tsou, MD, MPH is the interim Executive Director of Philadelphia PSR. He has served in the past as Health Commissioner of Philadelphia and Past President of the American Public Health Association. Dr. Tsou recently authored a resolution passed by the Pennsylvania Medical Society calling for a moratorium on new gas drilling in Pennsylvania based on the precautionary principle. The resolution also calls for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to fund research on the health effects of fracking in order to advance our scientific knowledge. The resolution has resulted in a widely read article in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and an editorial in the Reading Eagle endorsing a moratorium on gas drilling.
