April 2017 President's message

Dear Members,
I am humbled and deeply honored to accept the position of serving as your President for the next two years.  So much gratitude goes out to Patti Gribow for helming this ship through many rough seas over the last - almost 5 years as she served as our President.  This ship is in tight order now, thanks to her leadership and the strong team of this outstanding Board of Directors!  It has been my privilege to serve with you all!
Going forward we welcome Mary Jo Ginther as our VP - her experience in the Travel, Tourism and Hospitality industry is stellar, as well as running PS Film Friendly, serving the Film and Television industry.  We thank Cindy Shoemaker for continuing as our Treasurer and all the hard work she has done on our behalf!  And welcome Elaine Church as our incoming Secretary!  Elaine was at the very first PSWIFT networking Breakfast back in January of 2001- and has been with us ever since, delightfully serving as the Co-Chair of the BGA's.
We welcome Bianca Rae to our Board of Directors, and, sadly, say goodbye to DeAnn Lubell Ames, who has served as our VP for the last many years - we thank you DeAnn and will look forward to seeing you at our events!
We have some very exciting events coming up and encourage you all to become engaged and involved with helping on the events.    It really does 'take a Village' and I sincerely thank you for your support and participation!
See you on May 9th,  as we welcome the President and Executive Director of SAG/AFTRA, along with many of their members at an evening mixer being held at LuLu's in Palm Springs!  Mark your calendars and see you there!

Too many screenwriters are taught to start with a template or a formula. The result is scripts that are technically OK, but lack heart. Writing an "OK" script is not enough to launch your career; you have to write a script that stands out.

BookPALS News

BookPALS was started in the Coachella Valley in 2007 and in January 2010 was adopted by Palm Springs Women in Film and Television (PSWIFT) as one of its projects.
Elementary school children throughout the valley each week eagerly await the arrival of volunteers from Coachella Valley BookPALS (Performing Artists for Literacy in Schools) who share the joy of books by reading aloud to them. The 50 volunteers--who are actors, retired teachers and others--introduce the wonderful world of reading and literacy to 2,246 children weekly by reading engaging picture books to the classics of children's literature.
