March 2017 President's message

Dear Valued Friends,

As I conclude my tenure as President of Palm Springs Women in Film & TV, I want to thank you for the honor of serving you. Together we have worked to support PSWIFT in community outreach as well as created a mentoring environment for our members' growth.  I am very grateful for your dedication and the love that you and my stellar Board of Directors have shown me.  On a personal note, I am enriched by the lifelong friendships that I have forged with so many of you.

A new season is upon us and it's time to turn over the reins to a most talented woman and her Executive Board of Directors! It is with great excitement that I announce that our founder, Leanna Bonamici, will begin her term as president of PSWIFT in April. By her side will be Mary Jo Ginther as Vice President, Cindy Shoemaker as Treasurer, and Elaine Church as Secretary.  I know these ladies will lead our organization to new levels of accomplishment and success! Congratulations to all!

In addition, I would like to thank DeAnn Lubell for being my wing-gal as Vice President, Cindy Shoemaker for keeping our finances in check, and Leanna Bonamici for being the keeper of the keys of our minutes as Secretary.

Please make sure to welcome our newest Board Members Warren Jones and Bianca Ray; Janet Zappala as an Advisory Board Member and new PSWIFT members Jackie Story, Joyce Kiehl, Al Sophianopoulos and Bea Broda.  I know each of them will be a tremendous asset to PSWIFT!

Thank you again for your collaboration and support during my tenure as President.  I look forward to continuing to serve on the Board of Directors and remaining an active member of PSWIFT.  Our next event is March 18th and I look forward to seeing you there!

With heartfelt love and thanks,
Patti Gribow

BookPALS News

Our very own Janet Zappala and Tere Britton were at Abraham Lincoln Elementary on March 2nd for "Read Across America".  Janet, Anchor/Your Health Matters Reporter  for KM IR news and PSWIFT Board member took time out of her busy day to read to 2nd grade students!  Thank you Janet and Tere for all you do for BookPALS.

BookPALS was started in the Coachella Valley in 2007 and in January 2010 was adopted by Palm Springs Women in Film and Television (PSWIFT) as one of its projects.
Elementary school children throughout the valley each week eagerly await the arrival of volunteers from Coachella Valley BookPALS (Performing Artists for Literacy in Schools) who share the joy of books by reading aloud to them. The 50 volunteers--who are actors, retired teachers and others--introduce the wonderful world of reading and literacy to 2,246 children weekly by reading engaging picture books to the classics of children's literature.

If you would like to get involved, please contact Tere Britton at 760-898-405
