June 2016 President's message

Dear Friends,

Let me take this opportunity to thank all of you in making this a record-breaking season for PSWIFT. Our community outreach, fundraising and friend raising were all over the top. Your continued dedication and enthusiasm is both appreciated and applauded.

On May18th we held our Scholarship Mixer at Arnold Palmer's Restaurant in La Quinta, thanks to new member Eliana Mecham. The ambiance, food and wine were all wonder! There we gave out $4,500 in grants to local Schools' arts & media programs. Those honored were Palm Springs Unified School District- DIDGICOM Program, Coachella Valley HS- Digital Design and Production Academy/ASB DDP Site Club, Indio High School- ASB account for Digital Film Production, Cathedral City High School:Digital Arts and Technology Academy, and Shadow Hills HS- Visual Arts Dept: Digital Photo and Graphics classes I-IV.  As usual, it  is exciting to know we are investing in the future of our communities future leaders!

In addition, we are sponsoring a student for $1,200 to Ride the Peace Train from New York City through Philadelphia to Washington DC on The Peace Train Tour Across America: Putting the "United" Back in the USA. Modeled on The Peace Train's highly successful projects in South Africa which united people in a spirit of peace, respect and mutual understanding, The Peace Train 2016 Tour Across America is bringing together youth and adults of all backgrounds to sing about their shared values and hopes for a better future for all. For those of you who attended the screening of the documentary produced by Marilyn Cohen and Sharon Katz last month at the Mary Pickford you will join me in feeling that this sponsorship is icing on the cake as the chosen student will document the journey in video to be remembered by all!

Our office will be open all summer so expect to hear from us with Autumn updates of events and announcements. In the meantime, I wish you all a wonderful summer filled with love, laughter and fun!

My best,
