Good Practice: Supervising Friends and Family
On several occasions, Physiotherapy Alberta members have asked if they could supervise their spouse, a close relative, or friend as a physiotherapy intern or while doing a restricted activity before becoming authorized. Physiotherapy Alberta strongly advises against these supervision arrangements because of the potential risk for a conflict of interest.

Research in Focus: A New Take on Balance Assessment Following a Sport-related Concussion
Sport-related concussion is a significant health problem among Canadian youth due to its high prevalence and associated consequences. Sport-related concussions result from either a direct or indirect blow to the head, and may cause a wide range of signs and symptoms including, but not limited to; headache, dizziness, confusion, irritability, feeling slow, sleep problems, and/or balance deficits.

Technology in Practice: Electronic Medical Record System Adoption
Electronic medical record systems (EMRs) are no longer a rarity in physiotherapy practice. Once the domain of the early adopter, these systems are increasingly common, and for good reason. The use of EMRs offers a wide range of benefits ranging from business efficiencies, to improved clinical care, and health system benefits.

This means that if you are on the General Register you are required to participate in Reflective Practice Review before renewing your practice permit in August/September 2018.  Your date of admission to the General Register impacts the Reflective Practice activities that must be completed. Consider starting work on your Reflective Practice Review activities now.
