Fast-talking Harold Hill sweeps into a sleepy Iowa town, and soon there's trouble, right here in River City. Harold is selling marching bands, despite the fact that he doesn't know the difference between a treble clef and trumpet.

Taking the townspeople for a ride, with rousing numbers like "Seventy-Six Trombones," "Goodnight Ladies," and "The Wells Fargo Wagon," Harold plans on skipping town with their cash before anyone's the wiser, but he didn't count on falling for Marian, the town's librarian.

Join us for the rousing close to the 2014-2015 season!

Salt Lake Tribune:

"George Dvorsky received an unusual marketing request just after arriving in town for rehearsals to star as Harold Hill in Pioneer Theatre Company's big production of "The Music Man."

"For a photo opportunity, would he be willing to lead the University of Utah marching band dressed in costume as the shyster salesman who upends an Iowa town with his flashy talk of starting a boys band?

"Would he ever...!"

Deseret News:

"Pioneer Theatre Company is bringing not only treble but also bass, alto, soprano and 76 trombones in their glory in its season's capstone production, "The Music Man."

"Running May 1-16, the show tells the story of Harold Hill, musical theater's favorite fibber, who sets out to scam the residents of River City, Iowa, by selling them band instruments and lessons he never plans on teaching. But before the "professor" can sneak out of town, Marian Paroo, the local librarian, steals his heart.

"George Dvorsky, who plays Hill, believes the fast-talking swindler is one of the best-written roles in American musical theater..."

Provo Daily Herald

"'The Music Man' has become one of the most memorable musicals ever created. Still, though, there's a lot about it that most people forget.

"Sure, the ridiculously catchy songs will forever stay in your head. But what about the deeper messages behind them? An upcoming Utah production hopes to make its messages stick..."
Director's Notes
Director Karen Azenberg

Some people call The Music Man the practically-perfect musical. And I must confess, I subscribe to that way of thinking.

Why? Well, there are so many barometers for why we like or dislike a show. Ways of measuring why a musical written in 1958 can stand the test of time and still resonate. You could write a thesis on this subject, but here are a few thoughts as you wait for the curtain to go up.

In terms of its practically-perfect-ness, The Music Man hits every checkbox on the What-Do-You-Look-For-In-A-Musical list...

 Corralling Kids
The kids of "The Music Man"
By Kirsten Park, Director of Marketing

It's staggering to consider all the different roles that must be filled to produce live theatre....

But one role that you may not have considered, when launching a production such as The Music Man, with a cast of seven children, is that of the Child Supervisor, or known colloquially as the "child wrangler."

Jessa Brocklebank, holding the reins of the seven kids currently on stage, spent some time with us to tell us what it's like to "wrangle."
