Bird Island Study

SOLD

Most of you know that I'm a tree nut and I study them often. I decided that they deserve a blog of their own, so I created one over the holiday. You can see it here: http://treepainter.blogspot.com

Besides my tree paintings, it will feature articles about trees, poetry and hopefully guest posts by arborists and people who know a lot about trees.

Tip of the Day- Wildflower Seeding Times

Fall seeding is generally recommended for most wildflowers and native grasses. Sow the seeds on the surface evenly after the first frost (usually late November through mid-January) and let the freezing and thawing take the seed down into the soil. Many of the seeds will germinate during March and April but the warm season grasses will not germinate until May or June when the soil temperature reaches 60 degrees F.

Spring seeding is also an option. For best results, seed should be planted from mid-May to mid-June. The benefit of spring seeding is more moisture availability.

Recipe of the Day

 Baked Pita Chips:

(adapted from allrecipes.com)

Ingredients:
12 pita bread pockets
1/2 cup olive oil
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

Directions:

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.

Cut each pita bread into 8 triangles. Place triangles on lined cookie sheet.

In a small bowl, combine the oil, pepper, salt, garlic, and Italian seasoning. Brush each triangle with the oil mixture.  Bake in the preheated oven for about 7 minutes, or until lightly browned and crispy. Watch carefully, as they tend to burn easily!
