The Countdown to Great Give has Begun!
|
|
May 17th is an amazing day for Palm Beach County’s nonprofits. It’s the date of The Great Give, a 24-hour online event that each year breaks previous fundraising records for many participating organizations. Donate to your favorite nonprofit that day and your gift will be multiplied by an amount to be determined by the funds in the Great Give Bonus Pool. The community-wide event generates and celebrates the spirit of giving and the effect those funds have on making our community a better place through the efforts --- and resources --- of our nonprofit organizations.
Led by United Way of Palm Beach County, Achieve, Nonprofits First and United Way of Martin County, the Great Give has raised more than $8 million for over 500 local nonprofits in three years. This year, Palm Beach Philanthropy Tank is counting on your support! Please mark your calendars and make a note to donate to your favorite charity on May 17. We ARE your favorite charity, right? You’ve seen the impact of Philanthropy Tank on our students and on our community. A donation through the Great Give could make a world of difference to our programs that benefit all of us, right here at home.
Please help spread the word by sharing this link on your social channels, with your network of friends and family via email, or by carrier pigeon if you know how to make that work! Tell everyone you know to click on the link on May 17 to donate directly to Advisors for Philanthropic Impact, the creators of Palm Beach Philanthropy Tank. We’re working hard to achieve our goal of $7,500 on May 17 so we can support and enhance our programming and impact on participating students.

The year two student-finalists have hit the ground running since the Finals Event on March 8. During their first workshop, students learned about program guidelines, how to measure program impact through metrics, and heard from digital team at O'Donnell Agency on how to use social media effectively to promote their programs. Jean Hartman, pictured above, presented an overview of project management tools and challenged the students to dig deep, focusing on the 3 S's: scope, scale, and speed of their projects.
All students have held meetings with their Philanthropist-Investor(s), coaches and mentors. Over the next several months, they will attend additional workshops to learn about performance measurement, project management, financial management, sustainability, fundraising, branding, social media growth, marketing and public relations in order to propel their programs forward.

Ava Goldstone is a year two finalist from Pine Crest School. Her pitch, titled “Boundless Dreams,” was to build an unrestricted playground for all—including kids with disabilities -- to enjoy. Ava walked away a big winner when she received her full ask of $15,000 from the Philanthropist-Investors.
To sweeten the deal, an audience member who was captivated by the pitch contacted Ava following the event and made another donation to significantly boost the scale of her project. Brava, Ava!

Year one finalist, Daniel Clein was a hit with his 2016 project called Bricks Busting Boredom. The Gardens Mall recently launched LEGO Takeover! which will run through May 15, 2017. Once the exhibit comes down, the LEGOs will be donated to Daniel’s program, Bricks Busting Boredom to provide LEGOs for children in hospitals. They’re headed to patients in the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital.
Bricks Busting Boredom will be accepting donations during LEGO Takeover! with an emphasis on small kits or LEGO Duplo blocks. Please contribute to this wonderful program and drop off donations at The Gardens Mall.

“The beauty of Palm Beach Philanthropy Tank is that it accelerated what Daniel was doing. It gave him structure and helped him figure out things that we weren't really sure of. Mentors and coaches gave him the necessary tools to move forward with Bricks Busting Boredom and he will use that knowledge in the years to come.”
- Ken Clein, parent of year one finalist Daniel Clein

Following the Finals Event, The Boynton Forum was excited to speak with Team Certified from John I. Leonard High School. Their idea to teach high school students CPR, first aid and basic medical treatment earned them $12,500 to purchase CPR dummies and supplies to start their project.
