Deb and I were excited to host a marriage seminar. We had gathered the materials and prepared with care. The night came and we waited for the couples to arrive. We had invited our launch team members and advertised in the paper. We were just a few months in to the church plant God had called us to in NW Indiana. We laid out the materials and refreshments and waited...and waited. Nobody came.
Needless to say we left a little discouraged that night! We wondered if this was to be the fate of our church plant. That was over 20 years ago now. God used that church plant in powerful ways and it grew to be a large church. But it started very small. Our parable this weekend is about the Mustard Seed and the Yeast. Jesus reminds His followers that the Kingdom of God may start small but it has the potential to grow and overwhelm everything that it touches. Maybe you're facing some small beginnings right now. Maybe, like Deb and me that night so long ago when nobody came, you feel that God has forgotten you. I assure you He has not forgotten you. Hold on to Him and, in time, He may reveal what's around the corner. His presence in your life has power beyond what you can imagine. See you Sunday!
