Everybody Knows Somebody: National Eating Disorders Awareness Week

February 23- March 1st is national eating disorders awareness week. While I am glad that we have a whole week devoted to increasing awareness about this topic, I am saddened that so many are affected, thus dedicating an entire week to it. Let's look at why it's worth devoting time to, especially for you parents.

Housing Sign-Up

Office of Residence Life

The Office of Residence Life is pleased to announce the 2014-2015 housing sign-up process beginning March 6th for returning students. We are excited to report that Centennial Towers East will be re-opening for the 2014-2015 academic year after undergoing renovations during the 2013-2014 year!   However, Conrad and Martin Halls will no longer be available housing options to students.

Campus housing is a unique and convenient experience for your student.   On-campus housing allows your student to utilize a number of campus resources within a short walk from their door, maximizing their college experience.

For questions or concerns regarding housing sign-up, please call the Office of Residence Life at 308-865-8519.

Understanding Your College Student

Rosemary E. Simmons, Ph.D, Director

Counseling & Psychological Services

Southern Illinois University Carbondale

As parents we have watched our children go through the expected and sometimes unexpected challenges of moving through childhood to adolescence and now adulthood. I have had the unique perspective of being a licensed clinical psychologist at a University Counseling Center for over twenty-five years while raising my son who is now 19 and a sophomore in college.  Holding these roles simultaneously provided ample opportunities for the two roles to inform each other.  Here are some of the observations I've made and highlights from the research I've used to understand these observations.

UNK Update

The UNK News & Communications office has launched a new campus e-newsletter called "UNK Update." This is a "must read" for everyone who cares about what's happening at UNK.

We think you will be entertained, informed, enlightened and encouraged by what you read in "UNK Update."

We know everyone here at UNK has a story to tell: about research, teaching, discovery, passion, adventure, giving, serving. We see our role as gathering those stories, telling them, and sharing them. And we hope the stories motivate you to share UNK's story.

"Sharing our story" is part of our renewed theme here in the News, Communications and Marketing offices. More news, more feature stories, more videos and photos - all shared on multiple channels and media.

We invite you to explore our e-newsletter. Sign up and stay in touch by visiting:
