Health Minute
MY CHILD IS ILL, WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE TO PICK THEM UP FROM SCHOOL?
Students and parents are reminded that the correct procedures for leaving school are as follows: If a student is ill, they should go to the Health Office located in the Attendance Office.  Ms. Scholz will make the necessary calls to get permission for the student to be picked up or leave and then issue the student a permit. Students should not be texting or calling family or friends for permission to leave school.  A student must have a blue permit from a staff member in order to leave school property or they are considered truant.  After the student receives a permit to leave, they take the permit to the front security entrance and present it to the receptionist.  If they are getting a ride home, they should then remain in the building until their ride arrives for security purposes.  Please review with your student these important school procedure to help keep your child safe at school.

Play 4 Cade

Cade began playing ball for his hometown Rubicon Red at age 7, following in his big brother Cody's footsteps and a long-standing family love Rubicon Baseball. Tragically, Cade lost his life March 14, 2017, from injuries sustained from a car accident in his hometown, just before his Pony season was to commence.

Many hearts broke that day but his amazing family found the courage to choose life in  death through God's grace and with the WI Donor Network. Cade was able to give life to 4 other people with donations of his heart, liver, kidney and kidney/pancreas.

With Cade's love of baseball blazing the way, his sense of humor reminding us to live this life, and a true desire to raise awareness of the gift of organ donation; Rubicon will host an annual Play 4 Cade boys baseball tournament each Mother's Day weekend. We welcome you to join us in the First Annual Play 4 Cade tournament. Cade's 5-year-old, local heart recipient will be throwing the first pitch to launch a whole lot of love in his memory!

After 12pm all participants will have passes to the Outdoor Aquatic Center (lazy river, slides, and swimming). Logan walked many laps at St. Kilian school (21.4 miles to be exact) and also swam many laps at the outdoor pool. UW Campus Regional Placement Testing

Senior students who have been admitted to a UW campus are invited to participate in Regional Placement Testing. As a result of taking the tests, students find out their appropriate level of math, English, and foreign language to begin in college.
Students can register online for Regional Placement Testing, beginning February 1. The benefit of Regional Placement Testing is that students can take the test close to where they live, and they don't need to travel to the campus that they'd like to attend. Also, students need register for only one placement test even if they have been admitted to different UW campuses, or if they change their mind about which UW campus to attend. All UW campuses have access to each student's scores.

Early College Credit Program (ECCP)

The 2017-19 State of Wisconsin Biennial Budget included new language regarding high school students who take courses for college credit. The budget combines the Course Options and Youth Options programs into a single new program called the Early College Credit Program (ECCP).
High school students at public and private high schools may be permitted to enroll in a UW System institution, or an alternative private, non-profit institution of higher education to take courses to earn high school credit, post-secondary credit, or both. Course costs are shared among the school district/private school and the state (and in some cases, the student's family).
Students in grades  9-12 may be eligible to take courses during the fall, spring, or summer semesters. Students may submit their completed forms to school officials by  March 1 for summer/fall semester - or  October 1for spring semester.
For more information, contact your child's counselor.

ACT TESTING - 2017-18

All students considering a two or four-year college experience are reminded to take the ACT test during their junior year.  Students can register for the ACT at www.actstudent.org. When registering, students will need the HUHS school code, which is 500-850.   Please remember to check the website to see if the college(s) your son or daughter is considering requires or recommends the ACT writing test.   The test fee for the ACT is $46.00 and the ACT with writing is $62.50.   If you feel you cannot afford the test fee, please ask your child's counselor if you are eligible for a fee waiver.

HUHS is an ACT test center for all testing dates (except February 10).  The test dates for the 2017-2018 school year are:

April 14, 2018                                     June 9, 2018                                     July 14, 2018

Note:   Please keep in mind all juniors are required by state law to take the ACT at the high school on February 27 (no cost to the student on February 27).    When considering whether or not to sign up to take the February 10 or April 14 ACT, it may be best for students to take the February 27 test, then decide whether or not to retake the test in June or July based upon February results.
