DMH Legislative Breakfast
Parent Information Network,
along with
Department of Mental Health,
cordially invites you to attend the
Southeast Area
Department of Mental Health Legislative Breakfast

When: Thursday, March 23, 2017

Where: Great Hall at the State House, Boston

The Southeastern Massachusetts Area Legislative breakfast is one in a series of breakfast events that will take place this year at the State House. The true centerpiece of this breakfast is the personal stories that families share. These families, more than anyone else, convey the hope and heartache that comes with living with mental illness. Their stories put a face on mental illness, remind us that stigma is pervasive and must be eliminated, and that the power of hope and recovery is possible.

This very crucial event demonstrates to our Legislators the importance of continued support for children's mental health services.

PIN will be providing transportation to and from the event.

For more information, please contact Megan Howell, Administrative Assistant, at 508-947-8779 ext 210 or [email protected].
Random Acts of Kindness
Let's Turn the World Kind!

Random Acts of Kindness week (#RAKWeek2017), February 12-18, is an annual opportunity to unite through kindness.

Formally recognized in 1995, this seven-day celebration demonstrates that kindness is contagious. It all starts with one act - one smile, one coffee for a stranger, one favor for a friend. It's an opportunity for participants to leave the world better than they found it and inspire others to do the same.

Education Tip of the Month
Kindness Ripples

A small act of kindness can change someone's day. Kindness doesn't cost a thing. These are all phrases we have all heard. It's important to remember that children are always watching and learning. Through their parents they are learning about boundaries, relationships and kindness every day.

Even though they seem like mini adults, they often lack the skills to navigate everyday peer relations. That is why it is so important that schools help foster a culture of kindness within their schools. Click here for an article on 20 ways schools can promote kindness and prevent bullying.
PTAY Corner
Teaching Teens About Kindness

Kindness is something that we all can find a way to do. Even for our teens who may be struggling, kindness can be a simple act and may even turn their day around! Letting our teens know that little things like calling their grandmother or letting someone go in front of you in line are easy ways to be kind and make someone else's day brighter.

Click here for a great article that lists thirty suggestions for teens.  If they practice one every day for the next week or two, they may find it makes their day better too.
