CAR SEAT FINDER
Sometimes, being able to find the information you need fast helps alleviate stress. Here's a quick and easy to use tool from the Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) called The Car Seat Finder. This online tool helps parents and caregivers select the right car seat or booster for their child based on their child's birth date, weight and height.

HEALTH INSURANCE UPDATE

SAFE MEDICATION DISPOSAL
Don't Rush to Flush! What should you do with expired or unused medications?  The California Product Stewardship Council has helped bring a new medication disposal bin to the Rancho Cordova Police Department office on Kilgore Road. The new location and the other Sacramento-area locations are listed here www.dontrushtoflush.org.

THROUGH HEALTHY SLEEP AND STRESS REDUCTION
This month the Staying Healthy campaign is focused on everyone's need to be well rested. Getting enough sleep is important for your physical and emotional health.

A well rested person is:

  • Full of energy
  • Alert
  • Happier
  • Able to cope with frustrations
  • Able to better fight illnesses like colds and flu

That sounds great, right? But with busy work schedules, family activities, and holidays it is hard to get all the rest you need. Having a consistent bedtime routine for your children and yourself can help your family get the benefits of healthy sleep and is a great way to spend calm, meaningful time with each other.  Talk with your care provider about your child's naptime routine.  There may be books, music or other ideas you would like to use at bedtime.

Ideas for a Soothing Bedtime Routine

A warm bath

A quiet chat about the day

A favorite story

A lullaby or soft music

A kiss, a hug, an "I love you"

Goodnight

SAFE SLEEP FOR INFANTS

Infants need a great deal of sleep both at night and at several naptimes during the day. Sometimes babies seem to go from wide awake to sleepy in the space of a few seconds; other times they need soothing. Infants respond to the same calming routines as older children but there are some special considerations to follow when you put your little one down for a nap or bedtime. Talk with your child care provider about their safe naptime routines to make sure both of you are following the same safe sleep practices.

  • Place infants on their backs to sleep, every time.
  • If you want to keep your baby close at night, share a room, not a bed.
  • Babies should sleep in a crib with a firm mattress.
  • Remove all items from the crib. Save the stuffed animals, pillows, and blankets for playtime.
  • Dress babies in one piece sleepers like footed pajamas, onsies or sleepsacks.
  • If your infant falls asleep in the swing, carrier, or highchair; move them to their crib.
