SUMMER FUN IN SACRAMENTO

Summer is here! The school year is over and many children are now in care for the whole day OR they are home with you all day! What an opportunity to change up those old routines and have some new adventures!

Things to think about:

  • What did you enjoy doing in the summer as a child?
  • What were some of your favorite memories?
  • How could you re-create some of those experiences with your own children?

If your child is in care and your provider is taking a vacation, you could be in a situation where scheduling might leave you in a jam!

  • Has your provider discussed vacation plans with you? Maybe your schedules will match with each other or she/he has made arrangements for a substitute.
  • Does your provider offer any special programs or curriculum for the long summer days? This would be a great time to share some of your family traditions or activities with other families in the program.
  • How else might you partner with your child's provider to tackle the long summer days?

With a little imagination and teamwork, you can partner with your provider for a summer adventure everyone will be talking about long after the new school year starts!

ALLIES IN CARE

Parent Engagement is a

vital part of quality early education and learning for children. As an engaged parent, you know it is key to not only listen to what your child did during the day, but to ask questions to continue the conversation with your child's care provider. Often your provider is busy when you pick up your child, so you may have find it helpful to put your thoughts in writing once you've gotten home. This allows you to either email your questions and comments to your provider, hand her or him what you have written when you drop off your child or focus your time when talking one-on-one.

What parent services does your care provider offer? Do parents have the opportunity to volunteer their time in the program? Is there a Parent Group or Family Night? Every licensed child care provider has an open-door policy; do you feel welcome to join your child for lunch?

If you would like to have more discussion about Parent Engagement, please call Child Action, Inc. at (916) 369-0191 and ask for a Child Care Specialist.

We offer a QUALITY DECK OF CARDS AVAILABLE FOR YOU TO ORDER! It is a standard deck of cards, but each card has information about choosing a quality child care program. To learn more about choosing a quality child care program, you can also check out our Choosing Quality Child Care booklet.
