Dr. David Larson,

Extraordinary care a hallmark of Glenbard West education

I am impressed with the extraordinary care that our faculty and staff show to students and their families. Although Glenbard West is a large high school, our teachers, administrators and staff care about each student and give personal attention to students' individual needs. They forge relationships with students and take a personal interest in students' well-being and academic success. It is clear that they believe adults can affect each student through positive relationships.
Our faculty's care extends beyond their relationships with students to the students' parents and guardians, as well. Through a variety of programs, special events and services, our teachers, guidance counselors, social workers and school psychologist provide parents and guardians with support and resources as, together, we work to ensure students' well-being and preparation for post-high school life.
Among the many opportunities for parents and guardians to partner with Glenbard West are:
  • Glenbard Parent Series
  • Parent-teacher conferences
  • College night
  • Naviance college planning online tools, including:
    • My Assessments
      • StrengthsExplorer
      • Career Interest Profiler
      • Do What You Are
      • Cluster Finder
Working together, we can help parents and guardians help their teens navigate through adolescence and the high school years.
Our student services team of guidance counselors, social workers and school psychologist provide services to our students and parents/guardians so that students can maintain a focus on education and growth.
Our student services team takes a holistic approach to student issues and that approach often includes families. I was impressed when I heard a member of the team say, "Student services is like family services." When a student or family is dealing with an issue, our student services team can help by tapping into a wealth of support options, including referrals to community agencies, which offer a variety of parent groups and programs.
I encourage you to connect with your teen's teachers and Glenbard West's student services team. Research shows that parents' involvement in their students' education has a dramatic effect on academic achievement. At Glenbard West, there are a variety of opportunities for parents and guardians to partner with the adults who work with students all day. Parenting is the most important job we'll ever have. Working together, we can help students realize their dreams.

ONCE UPON A MATTRESS....Nov.10-12 (Fall Musical)
If you thought you knew the story of 'The Princess and the Pea,' you may be in for
a big surprise! Did you know that it wasn't the pea at all that caused the princess a
sleepless night? This humorous spin on the classic tale provides memorable songs
and fun characters. Chances are you'll never look at fairy tales quite the same
way again!
SHE KILLS MONSTERS....February 9-11 (Winter Show)
A high-octane dramatic comedy with homicidal fairies, nasty ogres, and 90's pop culture!
After  her teenage sister's death, Agnes finds her sibling's Dungeon & Dragons notebook
and stumbles into a journey of discovery and action-packed adventures. This heart-pounding play celebrates the geek and warrior within us all.
RADIUM GIRLS.........April 27-29 (Spring Drama)
A fast-moving drama inspired by a true story. When girls who paint watches with radium
fall ill with  a mysterious disease, Grace, a dial painter, fights for her day in court vs the
U.S. Radium Corporation. Called "powerful" and "engrossing" by critics, Radium Girls
offers an unflinching look at the peculiarly American obsessions with  health, wealth, and
the commercialization of science.
