Illinois Senate Bill 3249 and House Bill 5596, are currently being considered by our state representatives. This bill, in short, mandates that Illinois schools use books or book substitutes that include sections addressing “role and contributions” of LGTBQ+ persons. Additionally, it requires “the teaching of history of the United States in public schools [to] include a study of the role and contributions of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people in the history of this country and state;” teaches that alternative “gender expressions” are civil and human rights; and requires people identifying as LGBT in the community should be consulted in the development and delivery of such curricula. Please consider contacting your state senator and representative and sounding your opinion on this matter. To find who your representative or senator is, please see
