A note about format:

Thank you to those who let us know the links in the table of contents in previous issues weren't working for you. It turns out that tables of contents are no longer supported in many email programs, because they can disguise malware. So we won't be making the table of contents clickable any more. Folks will just have to scroll to things of interest.

Clergy,
please note that articles especially relevant to you are in the "Specifically for clergy" section. This section replaces the old "Clergy E-news."

MINISTRY HIGHLIGHT
Lenten book discussions prompt ministry actions by members of Redeemer

A Lenten program at The Church of the Redeemer, Providence, is turning out to be a lot more than a class - it's also been a springboard to discipleship.

About a dozen members spent Lent - and a few weeks more - reading and talking about " The Cross and the Lynching Tree " by James H. Cone. The book explores the connections between the universal symbol of Christian faith and the quintessential symbol of black oppression in America.

Click here for the complete story about the impact of that book at Redeemer and Holy Trinity, Tiverton, as well as information about upcoming opportunities to learn more about using the materials in your church.

As a bishop in the  Covenant Ecumenical Fellowship and Cathedral Assemblies, he also oversees a number of congregations around the world.

The Eucharist will be followed by a reception hosted by Bishop Knisely and his staff, and time to socialize with friends from around the diocese.

Convention continues Saturday morning, with check-in at 7:30 a.m. and light refreshments provided by the Episcopal Church Women, followed by business sessions beginning at 9 a.m. Everyone is welcome to attend Convention.

RESOURCES YOU CAN USE
Season of Prayer for an Election

This election season has been among the most contentious in recent memory. But whatever our politics, as Christians we always have something we can do. We can pray. For the 30 days leading up to the election, Episcopal publishing organization Forward Movement is calling Episcopalians and all others to join us in a time of prayer. More information, including bulletin inserts, is available  here.

Race & Voting Rights in Rhode Island:
Slavery to Black Power

Nov. 2  6:30-8:30 p.m.
The King's Cathedral
1860 Westminster St., Providence

With this year's fraught election cycle, changes to the 1965 Voting Rights Act, an ongoing battle to recover voting rights after incarceration, and removal of people of color from some voter rolls, many Americans have begun to question if or how our nation's history of slavery and racial oppression affects the rights of everyday American citizens to vote. Join the history discussion with Dr. Kerri Greenidge and stay for a panel of local experts on modern voting challenges in Rhode Island. Sponsored by the Center for Reconciliation.
Are you interested in helping lead a book study
for the Center for Reconciliation?

The Center for Reconciliation will be offering an opportunity for parishes to read and reflect on theologian James Cone's recent book "The Cross and the Lynching Tree," as described in the "Ministry Highlight" above. If you are interested in helping lead a study group in your parish or the community, plan to attend this leader interest meeting.
