Your monthly collection of exciting events, projects and new resources!
June 2018
What's happening at Parks?

The construction of the Parks Library is progressing
extremely well, with the steel wall and window framing
now complete. If you've been past recently you will also  see the  cladding outside the building too. It's shaping up to look like our library!

Behind the scenes we have been working on the technology, systems, programming and collection.
The Parks Library will provide access to the latest technology, including  virtual reality and a recording hub. There will be  makerspaces for upskilling and discovery,
community  spaces for events and enjoyment, a toy library  and a  multicultural collection.

Sculptures at the front entrance will be a focal point of
the design and these are being created with an artist
and local community groups, including schools. We  have
a few  surprises in store too.

We are on track to be open to the community and
fully operational by early October 2018.
Get gaming

Did you know that the library collection now includes  Playstation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo  3DS games?

With games like Minecraft and FIFA18, you'll find them on the shelf with our other software items. If you can't find what you're looking for, just ask the friendly staff at the desk to point you in the right direction.

Place your game on hold by logging into our online catalogue. You just need your library card and pin.

Hidden Histories revealed

Artist Rachel Harris is currently working with contributions and stories from the community, historical images from the Port Adelaide Historical Society and images from our own Local History Collection to reveal Semaphore's Hidden Histories. This project will feature as part of SALA this August.

Rachel will be holding a workshop at Semaphore Library on Saturday 2 June from 10:00am - 12:00pm. No bookings are necessary.

Missed the session but want to know more?
Keep up to date with the project on Facebook or

Let's go and learn how to sew

Have you always wanted to use a sewing machine but just haven't got around to it? Come along to one of our sewing workshops for beginners and make a library bag or a quilted oven mitt to take home. Perhaps this will open the door to a new hobby!

Sessions will be held at Semaphore, Enfield and Greenacres Libraries. For dates and times visit our event calendar
or contact your local library.
July school holiday program out  soon!

During the July school holidays we'll  be celebrating the 60th  anniversary of the first publication of  Paddington Bear  and the upcoming  release of the final Paddington book, Paddington at St Pauls .

Magic shows, Peruvian dancing, Paddington movies and teddy bear picnics will be some of the fun activities offered at your local City of PAE library.

The full program will be available shortly . Keep an eye out in your local library or  like us on Facebook
for updates!
Toy library volunteers needed

One of the fabulous features of the new Parks Library
will be a  free toy library and we are  currently calling for
volunteers  to help with:
  • Furnishing of toys in preparation for borrowing
  • Shelving and displaying the toys
  • Maintaining and cleaning the toys
We would also like volunteers to assist staff and customers when the Toy Library is open.

In the first instance we are recruiting volunteers
who live around the Parks Library and we'd especially welcome volunteers who speak a language other
than English.

For more information contact Janice, 8405
6032,
Audrey on 8405 6871 or send us an email.
Staff Profile - Pete

What is your role within the libraries?
My role as Home Library Officer entails the delivery of a
complete library service to those within our community who  are unable to physically access our sites. We provide
a monthly delivery of library items to our customers' front door. We tailor our deliveries to the customer's taste and requirements, and staff and volunteers pride themselves
on selecting the most appropriate material for each individual. We also deliver items to Aged Care facilities within the  City of Port Adelaide Enfield.

What's the best thing about your job?
Definitely the people I meet and have formed relationships with. The privilege of spending time and sharing experiences with our elders is priceless.

What's your favourite book?
I could never narrow that down to just one book.
Everything  ever written by Tolkien, "Year of Wonders"
by Geraldine  Brooks, most Bernard Cornwell and
Ken Follett books.  Better stop there.
