Hundreds of local students will strap on safety helmets and pedal to school on National Bike to School Day, Wednesday, May 10, 2017. The annual event focuses attention on the benefits of biking to school instead of commuting by car. Last year 26 elementary and middle schools throughout Solano County participated and we’re inviting high schools to participate this year! 

TO REGISTER: Call us at: (707) 399-3222 or email us at: solanosr2sinfo@sta.ca.gov by Monday, May 1st! All registered schools will receive FREE incentives to distribute to students who bike to school that day.

Once registered, our team will help guide you through the process. Here's what you'll need to do prior to May 10th:

• Promote the Event! Your school should have received promotional posters from
  us last week. If you need more, you can download them here. Place the posters in strategic locations throughout the school. You can also promote the event on the  the school marquee and by sending an email to parents.
  
  
• Identify Some Volunteers (preferably 1 person as lead volunteer and 2-3 additional volunteers)
  *SET-UP: Have volunteers come 30 minutes prior to student arrival and station them about 1-2 blocks from campus; Also set up a table in front of the school to have volunteer(s) give out the incentive items
  *TICKETS: When the volunteers see students riding their bike/scooter to school and displaying appropriate behaviors such as biking in a safe manner, wearing a safety helmet (a MUST) and riding their bikes on the right side of the road, the volunteers give the student a ticket to turn in at the table for an incentive item. Finally, don't forget to praise the students for riding to school!
  

SR2S staff will deliver the incentives and tickets to the school the week before. Items not used will be picked up by staff after the event. We hope your school can participate and be one of the thousands of schools promoting physical activity across the country!
