Hello from the CEO!
Gregory D. Johnson
Partnership Progression
West Union Square is Cincinnati Metropolitan Housing Authority's newest development and it is slated to open in the early summer. West Union Square represents CMHA's Mission by using public/private partnerships to promote neighborhood stability. Colerain Township leadership approached the agency about developing housing in a section of Colerain Township that was characterized by blighted buildings and criminal activity. The area of the township will soon be home to seniors 55 and up who are in need of affordable housing. CMHA is currently accepting pre-applications for the West Union Square wait list opening through March 19, 2018 at 11:59pm. People interested in applying can click here.

Also, the transformation and preservation of affordable housing is moving forward. CMHA felt it was very important to provide residents and staff with the next steps in CMHA's RAD (Rental Assistance Demonstration) conversion. A joint meeting with resident council leadership and CMHA management staff was held to ensure all were armed with the correct information. Everyone in attendance received the Preliminary Conversion Plan which outlines the anticipated date of conversion for nearly all Asset Management housing. The plan projects several years into the future and therefore is subject to change. Anyone interested in staying up to date on what is taking place with RAD can sign-up to receive the RAD Newsletter via email.

Lastly, I'd like to say a HUGE thank you to the Housing Choice Voucher Program staff behind the Real Estate Investment Seminar held in partnership with REIA of Greater Cincinnati. Over a hundred people turned out on a Saturday morning for the premiere event. Please read more about the event in the story below. On Thursday, March 29, 2018 CMHA will hold a celebration of the partnerships formed in our retail area. City West Retail located in the West End of Cincinnati is a CMHA Managed Business District that exemplifies the agency mission of developing public and private partnerships. CMHA leadership sought types of businesses that would benefit the West End families and those that will thrive in the area. During the past 4 years the two block area went from 30 empty bays to now being nearly fully leased. PNC Bank and the phone store were the first retailers to move into the area. City West Retail is now home to Daddy's Daycare, the Centers for Active Spine Health, Kiddy Kouture, Q Kidz Dance Studio, Urban Styles Barbershop, Cincinnati College Preparatory Academy, Metro PCS and PNC Bank. We will celebrate the partnerships with a City West Showcase at 1502 Linn Street.

 agspotlibraryAgency Spotlight:  Painter Training Partnership
The new year brings new opportunity for budding entrepreneurs. Cincinnati Metropolitan Housing Authority and Sherwin-Williams partner together to bring the 8th Sherwin-Williams HomeWork Painter Training Session. It will be held April 16 through April 20, 2018 at a CMHA site to be determined. The training helps men and women increase their painting skills and secure higher paying construction jobs. Every participant who completes the full 40 hours of training will receive a Certificate of Completion and earn additional certifications. The course is open to CMHA residents, Housing Choice Voucher holders and Hamilton County Section 3 residents. A basic interview is required for admission and class size is limited. Interested persons should call (513) 977-5852 or (513) 977-5853 to schedule an interview for the HomeWork Painter Training Program.

The Real Estate Investment Seminar presented by CMHA and REIA of Greater Cincinnati (Real Estate Investors Association) held February 24th was a great success. More than 100 people in attendance received free, valuable information from 25-year veteran of the local rental business Vena Jones-Cox. She is a former national president for REIA and the current host of the WMKV radio show, Real Life Real Estate Investing. The theme for the seminar was More Profit, Less Hassle: How to be a Successful Landlord.

Participants learned a) how to buy profit-makers instead of money pits, b) where to screen applicants for free, c) how to get top rents and more. Jones-Cox also provided attendees with great samples of a detailed lease, an application and a tenant screening checklist. Representatives from Auction.com, Cincinnati Realtist, Cutler Real Estate, Ellsworth & Associates, Inc., Metro Public Adjustment, Mr. Roof, OdorXit, and Weybridge Realty, LLC manned booths at the seminar and gave away prizes and samples. Lisa Isham is the Housing Choice Voucher Program Director and she stated, "We strive hard to be an asset to the Hamilton County community and we know we cannot do that without partnerships. Thank you to every attendee, business and employee who made this premiere event a success."
