“What do you want me to do for you?” “Lord, I want to see,” he replied.

The creator of the universe, the One who holds all creation in His hands approaches you and simply asks you this question: “What do you want Me to do for you?” What would you ask for? Solomon, as a young boy asks for wisdom to lead God’s people. Others may have asked for fame, wealth, or the meaning of their name changed like Jabez (1 Chronicles 4:9-10).
In the above scripture, blind Bartimaeus is referenced with a simple question from the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. What you do want from me?…What can I do for you? This makes me wonder…it was obvious that he was blind, but he could have asked for anything. A few years ago, I served as the Youth for Christ Chaplain of Remann Hall Pierce County Juvenile Detention Center. I spent hours in services and one on one time with kids in there. One time following a service I was approached by a young man who was originally from Mexico City, asked me to pray for him. I asked Him what he wanted God to do for him? His response caught me somewhat off guard. He simply asked that Jesus would empower him to be a witness for Him in his pod. I was expecting him to ask for mercy with his court hearing or to get him out of there! You would think the obvious would be requested.
For Bartimaeus, not only ware his eyes opened physically, but he was able to see spiritually. I don’t believe God asks questions that He is not completely and totally prepared to fulfil. I ask you to take time this week and consider the
unobvious
in your life that you would want God to meet in your life. Sometimes the obvious is simply a symptom of something deeper and more relevant. Too often we enter prayer with the surface of things we think we need when God is looking deeper at the source. You want Him to answer your prayer, align your prayer with His will by waiting and listening for His direction and watch what He does in and through you.
I prayed just that for this young man in Remann Hall and within a couple of weeks we saw revival, where most of the kids in his pod surrendered to Christ. God answered his unobvious request and made him effective and fruitful. Sometimes we get so caught up in the physical that we miss what God is wanting to do in the spiritual.
