Today I have the sad task of informing you that Erin Cushing will be leaving the Trinity staff team later this summer. Erin informed Catherine and myself last week that she will be returning to the public school system in August. She has received a wonderful offer to become the band and chorus director at a local middle school.
Last night Erin had an opportunity to share this news with members of Sonlight and their families. We are grateful for Erin's significant contributions to the ministries of Trinity, especially through her dedicated work with Sonlight and the 9:40 worship service. It has been a blessing to work with her during our first year and we will miss her as a member of the lead staff team. Even so, we affirm her in making a decision that feels right for her family and for the use of her tremendous musical gifts at this time in her life.
You can find a letter from Erin
, which provides more details about her decision as well as her love for Sonlight and Trinity.
The Staff-Parish Team became aware of Erin's decision on Monday evening and has already affirmed a temporary plan. Upon her departure, Alice Wallis will serve as the interim director for Sonlight. During this time, the scope of the choir's responsibility for worship will return to what it was for many years, primarily focused on preparing a weekly anthem. A team of musicians will be utilized to provide leadership of congregational music for the 9:40 service, which we hope will include both gifted youth and adults. After a period of time is spent reviewing the current job description and evaluating needs and expectations for the future, the search will begin for a new director.
We encourage you to join us in giving thanks for Erin's ministry and in praying for the next season of Sonlight.
By the way, the group has been putting final touches on their tour repertoire all week. I had the opportunity to sit in on part of their final dress rehearsal last night. Sonlight Send-Off is this Sunday evening at 7pm in the Worship Center. Come support these young musicians and hear the group share the music they will be taking around Gainesville and to Jamaica over the next couple of weeks.
Grace and Peace,
P.S. Over 30 people passed through the doors of the chapel this Tuesday between 5pm and 6pm in response to Catherine's invitation to be a church in prayer for God's direction this summer. We'll be back this Tuesday and encourage you to join us if you are able.
