Revised: Policies and Procedures

Girl Scouts of Gateway Council's Policies and Procedures have been revised. A volunteer committee attended local constituency meetings, surveyed and compiled data from the members of our council and recommend revisions to the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors approved these revisions to take effect on August 1, 2012.
Review the revised GSGC Policies and Procedures
|

New Parent and Volunteer Requirements

Part of the revised changes in our Policies and Procedures involve the adult volunteer policies. We are now going to begin requiring membership, a volunteer application, references, volunteer/council agreement, and a background screening on all volunteers working with girls in direct service or in roles including but not limited to adults that attend Girl Scout activities, drive girls or deal with money or Product Sales.
Background screening requires a shared cost of $2.00 per applicant, which will conveniently be paid directly online to Intellicorp during the application process. We are taking steps to ensure this process will be simple and user friendly for all volunteers. To read more on this new process, visit our website.

Dangerous Games
Building Awareness

In Girl Scouting we teach girls to make good choices and avoid risky behaviors. We encourage conversation with teens and tweens about avoiding such activities and about advocating against unhealthy behaviors by their peers. Since these activities could take place at any time, we want to share this article from the American Camp Association with volunteers and parents.

Girl Scouts Forever Green Update
Great news: as of July 2012, Girl Scouts has engaged 66,000-plus people in Girl Scouts Forever Green (GSFG) projects, with an additional 21,000 pledge takers! We've measured significant, measurable environmental impact, including:
* Saving approximately 353 million kilowatt-hours of energy
* Eliminating nearly 575 million pounds of CO2 (equivalent to yearly emissions of over 51,000 cars)
* Conserving more than 173 million gallons of water
* Eliminating 62 million pounds of waste
We're aiming to get hundreds of thousands of Girl Scout members and non-members on board with Girl Scouts Forever Green; there's still time! If you and your Girl Scouts haven't yet, take the pledge online.
Keep the program active in the new membership year! And take an in-depth look at the impact of Girl Scouts Forever Green on our global community; you'll find our "total impact to date" as well as council, USAGSO, and individual stories.
