A New School Year Begins!
The 2017-2018 school year began on August 8 with nearly 1,400 excited students descending upon the KDS campus. School maintenance staff and administrators spent the summer preparing for another school year, and their hard work paid off, as everything was 'ready to go' for the big day.

Everyone at KDS is excited in their own way for a most successful school year!

Dedication Day 2017
Dedication Day 2017 festivities for the Kate Duncan Smith DAR School are scheduled for October 12th and 13th.  Anticipation is high as plans are made to welcome DAR members from across the country to dedicate gifts from the previous year. Thursday activities planned include lunch with the students, campus tours, classroom visits, a craft show, and the traditional School Supper on campus. Friday will be the official Dedication Day program and the Famous Basket Lunch.
Please make plans to be with the students and staff of KDS on this special day! The Schedule of Events is packed full of activities and happenings, and everyone is invited.  If you plan to be with us for one or more of the events, please complete the attached registration form and submit it as soon as possible.

KDS Students "Blessed" with Generosity

KDS administrators learned mid-summer that the Guntersville Distribution Center for the Blessings in a Backpack program would no longer be including Marshall County Schools in their program.

"Because this is such a valuable program for our students, we proceeded with plans to continue locally," said KDS Executive Director Heather Green.

Pre-K Continues to Grow

The Pre-K at KDS has expanded again and this year will have three classes serving 54 students. The program, which began in 2014, started with one classroom located in the Primary Building. After two years, the program continued to grow with a 2nd class added and moved to the former Headstart location on the KDS campus. This year, Alabama's voluntary  First Class Pre-K   program continues to grow at KDS with the addition of another classroom serving 18 more four-year-olds from the school district. The maintenance department from the Marshall County Board of Education added a dividing wall making the large classroom into two. The busy teachers and students at the KDS Pre-K are off to a great start to the new school year!
