Blogging toward Sunday, August 5
Playlist: "Building Relationships on God" by Rebecca Sardina
Scripture: Matthew 7: 24-27 (CEB)
"Everybody who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise builder who built a house on bedrock. The rain fell, the floods came, and the wind blew and beat against that house. It didn't fall because it was firmly set on bedrock. But everybody who hears these words of mine and doesn't put them into practice will be like a fool who built a house on sand. The rain fell, the floods came, and the wind blew and beat against that house. It fell and was completely destroyed."
Rebecca Sardina will be a sophomore at Freedom High School this fall. She has been involved with Peace Youth for about a year now and has grown in faith during that time. This Sunday, she will wrap up our "Playlist" series by talking a bit about why the song "Build My Life" by Housefires is important to her, as it was a theme-song for her in middle school years and got her through some pretty tough situations. She understands, like many of our other "Playlist" speakers, how important music can be in our daily lives and how It turns out to shape the people that we become. She will share some of her experiences over the summer, and some perspectives she has because of the lyrics of this song. I am excited to see the ways in which we can walk away with a better understanding of the song.
Rebecca will challenge us with the lyrics of the song as it encourages us: "I will build my life upon your love; it is a FIRM foundation. I will put my trust in You alone, and I will not be shaken." This lyric is the bridge of the song and connects very well to the Bible passage that Rebecca has chosen. Does anyone remember...
The wise man built his house upon a rock, and the rains came tumbling down. The rains came down and the floods came up, the rains came down and the floods came up. The rains came down and the floods came up, and the house on the rock stood firm!"
The song goes on to say that the foolish man built his house upon the sand and the house went splat!
"So build your house on the Lord Jesus Christ and the blessings will come down!" Click on the video link to the children's song if you want a listen!
Join us this Sunday as we end the "Playlist" series talking about building our lives on God and building our relationships with people on Jesus' love. Come to enjoy being served by the young people of this congregation. After all, they are the future of Peace UMC and of the Church in the world!
See you soon,
Katherine Bomgaars, Director of Student Ministries
