Worship Focus for December 10
An Honest Peace
The Rev. Hardy Kim, preaching
Greetings!

I hope your observances of Advent are off to a good start. As many of you experienced, we began our Advent worship with a combined service that focused on the first Sunday’s theme of HOPE. I, myself, was indeed lifted into hopefulness by the wonderful music that was woven together by all of the different music teams. And I found myself filled with gratitude for the hope that was embodied in the sixteen confirmands who made their commitments to be faithful followers of Jesus and committed members of our community.

This week we will continue on our blessed Advent journey, as we consider the call to think about the PEACE that Jesus brings to the world. If you consider the news from our nation and around the world, peace is something we desperately need right now. But how can we be a part of making peace a reality? What are the things God is calling us to do to make room for peace? I hope you’ll join us in worship so we can listen for the possibility of peace, together.

With Advent hopefulness,
Hardy

Theme for Sunday

Forgiving and being reconciled are not about pretending that things are other than they are. It is not patting one another on the back and turning a blind eye to the wrong. True reconciliation exposes the awfulness, the abuse, the pain, the degradation, the truth. It could even sometimes make things worse. It is a risky undertaking but in the end it is worthwhile, because in the end dealing with the real situation helps to bring real healing.

-Archbishop Desmond Tutu, No Future Without Forgiveness
Questions for Reflection
  • Think about a situation in your life (or in the life of the world) into which you pray for God’s peace to come.
  • What are some of the things that get in the way of the peace for which you hope?
