Recess : Peaceful Playgrounds Games and Markings Improve Recess Experience

Put an end to recess hassles and headaches.

As schools across the nation return from summer break, many face new regulations regarding recess.  Parents have joined together to have daily recess reinstated in many schools recognizing the many benefits of recess to learning and overall well being.

What many schools won't do however, is change recess for the better. It just takes a short period of time to improve the recess environment through painted games and markings. To improve recess research is indicating that the following interventions help to get children more active or engaged in games.

 1.   Game markings like those available from Peaceful Playgrounds .  They are an inexpensive intervention that takes volunteers for painting and a minimal expense.

2.   Loose equipment like balls, bean bags, hoops and ropes have also been shown to increase physical activity and they are necessary for getting children involved in most games.

3. Game choice is associated with social skills and problem solving abilities, as well as, leadership and cooperation learned from game experiences.

These are all components of the Peaceful Playgrounds Recess Program.
