A Message from Cheri Gioe:
Some people do not like or are afraid of Facebook. I’ll admit that there are times it can be used inappropriately, negatively, and in a manner intended to hurt and harm, but I find that overwhelmingly Facebook is a vehicle to share good news, post positive messages and keep in contact with friends and loved ones, near and far. Often times, I find stories filled with humor, hope and inspiration and those are the stories I focus on and try to share.
Recently, I ran across a slide show on Facebook with a message that spoke to me and I think it will speak to you as well. The author is unknown.
“A school principal sent this letter to parents before exams.
Dear Parents,
The exams of your children are to start soon. I know you are really anxious for your child to do well. But, please do remember… amongst the students who will be sitting for the exams, there is an artist, who doesn’t need to understand math…There is an entrepreneur, who doesn’t care about History or English or Literature …There’s a musician, whose Chemistry marks will not matter…There’s an athlete, whose physical fitness is more important than Physics. If your child does get top marks, that’s great! But, if he or she doesn’t…please don’t take away their self-confidence and dignity from them. Tell them it’s OK, it’s just an exam! They are cut out for much bigger things in life. Tell them that no matter what they score…you love them and will not judge them. Please do this and when you do… watch your child conquer the world. One exam or a low mark won’t take away…their dreams and talents. And, please do not think that doctors and engineers…are the only happy people in the world.
Warm Regards,
Your Principal “
I share this with you because we will begin taking the ACT Aspire, standardized test next week. There is a lot of emphasis placed on this test. It is often referred to as a “high stakes” test. While the ACT Aspire is important and helps to inform instruction for MBS teachers to ensure the curriculum is rigorous, relevant and engaging for our students, it is just one part of your child’s academic portfolio. An academic portfolio is comprised of classroom participation, teacher observations, work samples, classroom testing and standardized testing. Each time a mark is placed in that academic portfolio, it is a snapshot of what a child is doing at that particular time.
Remember, student achievement is a marathon and not a race. Students will have successes and struggles. The struggles build characteristics such as perseverance, fortitude, pride, determination and also lead children to find their God-given gifts and talents. Wishing all our students good luck on their ACT Aspire test as they come one step closer to knowing God’s plans for them.
In Christ,

ACT Aspire - Summative Test - November 7-10
The ACT Aspire Readiness Assessment System is a comprehensive testing resource that all schools in the Diocese of Baton Rouge utilize in Grades 3-8 to measure academic development, explore areas of strength and need, and make plans for achieving academic goals. The test also correlates with the American College Test (ACT) taken by all students in high schools within the diocese. The testing system includes interim (benchmark) assessments, given to the students within the context of core classes at the beginning and end of the year, as well as the summative test (a pen-and-paper norm-referenced standardized test) administered in the fall.
This year, the summative testing dates will be Monday, November 7 - Thursday, November 10. It is very important that students attend school and arrive on time on testing days. Please ensure the students come to school on test days having a good breakfast, being well-rested, and being ready to do their best.

Thank You!!
We are most grateful for our children, parents, and grandparents who made our costumed Saints and Souls procession so beautiful this year. We had the largest numbers of costumed saints ever. Be assured of our gratitude and our prayers for all those families who submitted names for our Book of Life. This is truly why we are a Catholic school…to celebrate our faith, our heritage, and our traditions.
