Sun Valley Phase II Renovations Underway and On Schedule

Penn-Delco's multi-year commitment to improving district facilities continues with the next phase of substantial renovations to Sun Valley High School currently in high gear. Following the restroom, cafeteria, and kitchen renovations that were completed the past two summers, the renovation of classrooms and the library is progressing according to schedule. Currently, crews have begun to work on renovating general classrooms in the C-wing of the building. These classrooms will be renovated in time for the start of the 2018-2019 school year. Work on the B-wing classrooms has also begun and will occur in two phases. The first phase will be completed by October 2018 and a second phase will begin in October and continue through February 2019. Modular classrooms are in place to temporarily accommodate classes that will be displaced during each phase of the B-Wing construction. The library/MIC will enjoy a complete transformation by reconfiguring the space to better accommodate 21 st-century research, learning and collaboration needs.

Outside of the school building, much needed attention to the Sun Valley Stadium field and track has already begun. The field will be replaced with a high performance turf ideal for multiple sport play and low-maintenance care. A new track will be built adding additional jump areas and a pole vault area. The final completion date of the stadium field is weather dependent, but currently scheduled for the last few days of August into the first week of September. Field improvements to the SV Softball and also Baseball fields remain scheduled to begin this Fall.

Looking ahead, starting in the spring of 2019, work will begin on the Sun Valley main office area, main entrance, and auditorium. The entry into Sun Valley will enjoy aesthetic and updated security and natural lighting improvements. Administration offices will be re-configured and new spaces will be added to accommodate a new nurses office/health suite. Work on a new auditorium will also begin at this time and continue through the summer of 2020. The new auditorium will expand capacity significantly and will represent a substantial improvement compared to the existing auditorium.

The final phase of the project will be the reorientation of the main gymnasium, renovations to locker rooms and other athletic areas, and the addition of a new weight room/fitness center as well as auxiliary gym. That work is scheduled to be completed during the summer of 2021.

Sun Valley Student Workers Participate in THRIVE Program at Aramark Headquarters Over the Summer

A summer job is right of passage and often a high school student's first experience in the workforce. These Sun Valley students are getting the experience of a lifetime thanks to the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, Special Olympics, and Aramark. Over the summer, the students will be working 90 hours at Aramark headquarters in Philadelphia and are getting paid for their hard work as part of the THRIVE program. The hope is that they learn employability skills to help them land a job in the future. Sun Valley is the only school piloting the THRIVE program, which is being funded through a grant from the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation. Take a look at their experience...
