It’s spring. The Gators are eyeing the Final Four and our students are (mostly) recovered from Spring Break. Amid the green and lengthening days, our College is embarking on a new adventure.
The University is partnering with industry advisors and HHP faculty to host the first-ever University of Florida Tourism Summit. It’s a national conference being held next month at Disney’s Boardwalk Resort in Orlando. Experts from industry, government, and academia will discuss major issues affecting travel and tourism. Attendees will get to meet UF President Kent Fuchs and network with business executives from across the US.
I’m proud to have our College leading this exciting new conference. It promises to be a great event for Gators in the tourism industry and I hope to see you there.

In 1928, a chamber-like device nicknamed the Iron Lung saved an 8-year-old’s life from the terrible polio epidemic. Since her dramatic recovery, breathing machines, like the Iron Lung, have taken on many different forms and shapes. What started as a chamber that encapsulated a person’s entire body, is now the ventilator we see in hospitals across the world today. While this technology has saved countless lives, there is a damaging side effect that affects about a million people a year in the United States alone.
HHP’s Dr. Scott Powers and his team have spent nearly two decades working towards a solution for this problem.

The Gator100 recognizes and celebrates the 100 fastest-growing Gator-owned or Gator-led businesses in the world each year. Dr. Alfred Jackson (BSESS 2001), owner of Jackson Orthodontics, and Jennifer Lutsi (BSR 2001), founder of Amenity Elite were honored at this year’s celebration.
