Introducing the Brazilian Artists
Four artists from Sao Paulo, Brazil are contributing site-specific work to "From Cosmology to Neurology and Back Again," which opens tomorrow at whitespace gallery. All four artists will attend the opening reception, so you will not want to miss this opportunity to meet and talk with them about their work before they return to Brazil.
Sissi Fonseca will appear in a one-time-only live performance at 9 pm on Friday, July 6. "Placebo" involves amulets, medicinal capsules, and buckets of water.
Hugo Fortes presents "Evolution in Three Lessons," a video installation in whitespec. The lessons range from the ravens at the Tower of London to the fauna and native inhabitants of Tierra del Fuego that Darwin encountered.
Rachel Rosalen and Rafael Marchetti are constructing a device in the whitespace garden house that represents a new living species. It mixes molecular properties and electronic prostheses and simulates a new hybridization between water living systems and electric living systems. Having a electric censorial capacity, "Hydrophiletic-Z" can absolve the gravity while not losing its own plasticity.
All four artists will be present at the opening reception, 7 - 10 p.m. on July 6th.
"From Cosmology to Neurology and Back Again" also includes works by the following artists: Bethany Collins, Henry Detweiler, Terri Dilling, Harris Dimitropoulos, Mike Germon, Beth Lilly, Todd Murphy, Kelly O'Brien, Chelsea Raflo, Seana Reilly, Pedro Rivadeneira, Dick Robinson, Julie Sims, Nikki Starz, Ann Stewart, Karley Sullivan, Julianne Trew and Marcia Vaitsman.
