Performing Arts 57th Annual Spaghetti Dinner

The Spaghetti Dinner is on Saturday, April 2nd starting at 5:00 p.m. This is a night of great music and a perfect event to  share the Performing Arts with family, friends, and neighbors.  Enjoy a full dinner of spaghetti with Peg Radford's fabulous homemade sauce  (meat & vegetarian options), salad, bread, beverage & ice cream.  Other activities include a Raffle, Bake Sale and BPA Merchandise. 

Tickets:  or at the door.  Purchasing tickets ahead of time helps us plan for the event.   Prices: $15 adults, $10 students, Under 5 years free.

Performing students will need to purchase a ticket to enjoy dinner at the event.  Call time is 30 minutes prior to the performance time wearing their Ballard Music T-Shirts.

The next Ballard Performing Arts Booster Club General Meeting is Tuesday, April 5th at 7:00 in the BHS Library.  There will be updates from all of the Directors as well as a breakout trip meeting for the Jazz Reno Trip.  Don't miss it!

Time for Spring Cleaning! 
The Goodwill truck will be at the back Ballard High School parking lot on  April 2 , 2016 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Ballard Performing Arts  will receive a donation of at least $500 from Goodwill. They will accept small furniture (no large furniture please), electronics, used cell phones, clothes, shoes, toys, kitchen items, etc.

THIS Saturday, April 2nd is the BPA 57th Annual Spaghetti Dinner and we are still in great need of volunteers!  This wonderful event does not happen without the help of many people. Wednesday, April 6th, the Ballard Choirs will host the 5th Annual Northwest Region Choral Showcase at 7:00 PM in the BHS Gymnasium.  We need parents to help with Bake Sale items as well as some parents to hand out Programs and help direct  guests to the gym . Please contact  Ms. Rowley   if you are available to help  out that night .

EBMEA Choir Festival at Ingraham High School Last Week   Congratulations to Treble Choir, Advanced Women's Chorale, and Concert Choir on your excellent performances last week at the Elliott Bay Choral Festival.  Our choirs received extremely high marks and helped to set the standard for choral music in the district.  Students had the opportunity to work with Dr. Giselle Wyers (University of Washington), Darcey Morrissey ( Bellevue Girl Choir and Boy Choir), and Jeff Horenstein (Meadowdale High School and Groove For Thought).  It was a wonderful day for Ballard Music!

Choral Festival at BHS!   Wednesday, April 6th, the Ballard Choirs will host the 5th Annual Northwest Region Choral Showcase at 7:00 PM in the BHS Gym.  T his wonderful neighborhood event brings together students from Elementary and Middle School Choirs that feed into BHS as well as our own Ballard Choirs. It offers parents a chance to see the musical pathways available to their children as they progress through school, and is a fun community building event for the students involved.  Call time for Ballard Choirs is 6:00 PM wearing their choir t-shirts and black pants.

Wind Ensemble & Percussionists Trip to Vancouver B.C.  Friday, April 8th-10th  

IMPORTANT: Students must be in the Bandroom wearing their Black Band T-shirts at 7:00 AM on Friday, April 8th. The buses will leave BHS promptly at 7:30 AM.

Vancouver B.C. Permission slips and ID (Passports or Birth Certificates) are now PAST DUE . Please  download a permission form here  and have your student return the Past Due items to Mr James ASAP.

Jazz 1 Trip to Reno is on April 28th through May 1st.  There will be a trip breakout meeting at the end of the next BPA General Meeting on Tuesday, April 5th 7:00 p.m.

Ballard  Jazz Band 1 and 2 & Vocal Jazz  return to the stage at Dimitriou's Jazz Alley.   This is a great opportunity to watch our students perform in the same place where many Jazz greats and legends performed.  Doors open at 6:00 pm; show at 7:30 p.m.  Purchase your t ickets and /or dinner reservations at jazz in advance of the show or call 206-441-9729 so you don't miss out!   Invite your family and friends (all ages are welcome) for another great night of Ballard Music!  

Ballard Performing Arts receives a portion of the proceeds from the  ticket sales  so don't delay!  This event has sold out in the past. Performing students will  need a ticket  if you would  like to  save them a spot for dinner at your table.

Looking Ahead to 2017...  The Wind Ensemble has been accepted into the "New York International Music Festival" on April 8-12, 2017. Ballard is one of six high school groups selected from around the world.  These groups will be joined by two showcase university groups. They are looking forward to participation in the festival and to the culminating performance at Carnegie Hall. More details to follow. Deposit of $500 will be due on June 10th.

Auditions for Student Directed One Acts are TODAY Tues, March 29th at 2:30 p.m. 
The student directed comedic one acts are a great opportunity to get involved with the BHS theatre department. There are 4 short plays with over 15 roles. Pick up a packet from Mr. Riley in the Black Box (NE 224).

Information for Musicians/Performers interested in performing for Spilled Ink 
We are seeking BHS students, soloist or in groups who would like to play music or perform from 5 - 15 minutes on the night of May 7th between 6:00 - 8:00 pm at the Ballard Branch Library during the BHS Spilled Ink Event.  Fill out the Information Sheet located in the Black Box or see Mr MacDougall (SW105) or Lynn Miller at the Ballard Library before Thursday, March 30th if you are interested

Whitman Middle School is holding the first annual Whitman Jazz Fest Sunday, April 3rd at 1:00 pm at The Tractor Tavern. All Ages Welcome.  Whitman's two Jazz Bands will perform, as will a Jazz combo from Ballard High School.   Buy tickets online at  Or buy tickets at the door.   Proceeds benefit the Friends of Whitman Music Program.  Check out their flyer for more info.

NEA Musical Theater Songwriting Challenge  The 5th Avenue Theatre is   working   in partnership   with the Office of Arts and Culture to launch the pilot program of   the NEA Musical Theater Songwriting Challenge ! The contest is for   all high school (grades 9-12) students in King County   and will focus on musical theater composition that includes both music and lyrics. Illumination Learning Studio   Summer Camp Volunteer/Leadership Opportunities. 
The Studio offers a high-quality After School for ages K-5th grade with locations in Ballard and Greenwood.  Our program has a cultural arts concentration, providing students exposure to Interactive learning technologies, Music, Drama, Fine-Arts, Spanish and Yoga activities after school. Our staff are specialized early childhood educators and teachers.  We c urrently have  Summer Leadership Volunteer opportunities as co-leads in our exciting summer youth camps.  Interested middle and high school students should complete our  application  and return it to Ms. Ali at  by March 31st, 2016 .  Informal interviews will take place in early April with decisions announced Mid-April followed by an orientation in May.  Summer Camp volunteers can choose from a flexible schedule, mornings or afternoons and choice of days or weeks between June 27th and Sept 2nd.  To learn more visit .
