Under The Same Sun is participating in  #GivingTuesday on November 29!
#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving back which celebrates generosity and volunteering. It falls on the Tuesday following American Thanksgiving which this year is Nov. 29th.

Perpetua is living proof that Under The Same Sun's Education and Career Placement program is working. She is a well-spoken, confident, young lawyer with albinism, who is going places.

But it wasn't always that way...
I grew up like most other young people with albinism, being put down and made fun of at school and on the street because of the way I looked. When it was time to consider higher education, everyone around me gave me this advice: - "It is too difficult for you. You'll never make it. You will fail."

And I listened. I applied to University in social studies but with little hope of getting in. And then something shocking happened. The University chose me for their law program. And Under The Same Sun agreed to pay for my education.
I never planned to be a lawyer. I didn't believe I could do it. But I reluctantly accepted, because for the first time someone saw the potential in me!

After 6 months I realized I would never make it. I was still listening to those that said I couldn't. But it was too late to switch faculties and I had no choice. I had to study law. So I decided to just work as hard as I could. After all, I had to make UTSS proud because they believed in me. And I had to please God for giving me this gift. So I began to ignore what others said.
Four years later, I graduated with honours. And one week after that, Under The Same Sun accepted me into the Career Placement Program, and invited me to intern at their office in Dar Es Salaam. I had never worked in an office. They taught me how to present myself, how to lift my head high and share my ideas, how to work.
Today, I am an Advocacy Officer because of the UTSS Career Placement Program. I travel around Tanzania and the African continent, and even make U.N. presentations, fighting for the protection and rights of people with albinism. I am living proof to my fellow Tanzanians with albinism, and to my country, that people with albinism can succeed just like anybody else.

Perpetua Senkoro

The UTSS dream, that people with albinism will take their rightful place in every level of society so that one day the days of discrimination will become a faint memory, is being lived out in young people like Perpetua.

Will you help us provide career placement assistance to more graduates with albinism? THEY ARE BECOMING THE CHANGE. And YOU WILL MAKE THE DREAM BECOME REALITY, with every individual who is helped.
From now till  #GivingTuesday  Nov. 29 help us reach our goal of $25,000 to place 25 bright young people with albinism in careers around Tanzania.
