The years event was co-hosted by the Horry County Sheriff Department and the City of Conway Police Department. Other agencies participating this year included DNR, SCHP and HCPD.The two hour event welcomed over 400 city and county residents; offering a number of crime prevention tips, handouts and displays. Attendees were also treated to a meal of hot dogs, B-B-Q popcorn, home fries, along with popcorn and snow cones for both the young and young at heart.
Buddy Card Program
In an effort to build and foster relations with the youth of the community, the Conway Police Department has implemented a new outreach...the Buddy Card Program. This Program encourages the officers to get to know the youth that live in the areas that the officers patrol. With an emphasis on getting the officers out of the car and into the community. After the Buddy Cards are distributed the youth are encouraged to seek out additional officers to have then sign their Buddy Card. Once eight (8) different officer signature's are obtained, the cards are turned in to the Police Department, where the child is presented with a book bag that is loaded with treats and coupons and a picture of the child with the on-duty officer is then taken The child is then registered to participate in a pizza and swimming party at the Conway Recreation Center. The child is also encourage to obtain another Buddy Card and start the process all over again with eight (8) different officers. The first pizza and pool party is scheduled for Saturday, November 4th from 11 am -1 pm at the the Conway Recreation Center .
Coffee with a Cop at Rivertown Roasters
Coffee with a Cop
This event Coffee with a Cop is a simple concept. Police officers and community members come together in an informal, neutral space to discuss community issues, build relationships, and most of to enjoy a good cup of coffee. Coffee with a Cop is a national movement that aims to build trust between community members and police officers, one cup of coffee at a time. one of the keys to Coffee with Cop's success is that it removes physical barriers that routinely exist between police officers and community members, allowing for the relaxed, one-on-one interactions which are the necessary foundation of partnerships. The informal contact in a friendly atmosphere increases trust between police officers and the members of out community which is critical to public safety and problem solving .
