On Saturday June 16th, over 500 artists and audience members came together at The Eli and Edythe Broad Stage in Santa Monica to celebrate the second annual performance of Montblanc presents The 24 Hour Plays: Los Angeles to Benefit Urban Arts Partnership.
The 24 Hour Plays: Los Angeles brings the philanthropic and creative legacy of The 24 Hour Plays on Broadway Benefit to the west coast to support Urban Arts programs in 5 Los Angeles Unified School District schools. Just as in New York, 24 actors, 6 writers, 6 directors, and a musical guest collaborate to conceive, write, rehearse, and perform 6 new plays punctuated by 6 musical performances, all in a span of 24 hours.
For the first time, one of our Los Angeles students opened this year's performance with an original piece. Sixteen-year-old Isabel Wing told us the story of her first "job," when her mother took her to a local farmer's market to busk with her guitar. The transformative moment occurred when people stopped to listen. "I felt so important and noticed," Isabel said.
In one evening, we raised $225,000 to empower students like Isabel to find academic, emotional, and social success through the arts.
