I recently had the pleasure of listening to a friend of mine, Dr. Denise Chranowski discuss the topic of 'change' in her weekly video chat, "A Dose from Doctor Denise". As I listened, I realized that her message was speaking to me on many levels; both personally and professionally.
Change....it's absolutely inevitable. Every day we wake to a new sunrise and are given the opportunity to change and be motivated by what lies ahead in those next 24 hours. Admittedly, I've never been a fan. I like things just the way they are; I don't 'move my furniture'; "if it's ain't broke, don't fix it".... But, I've come to realize that change is a test to our own inner-strength and it uncovers those weaknesses that, unless questioned, can nurture mediocrity and complacency.
Change opens the doors to new experiences. It invites problem-solving. It inspires creative thinking. Change is an opportunity to grow. Change promotes conversations and fosters ideas that would otherwise never be considered. Change can be the motivator that builds new friendships. Change provides the courage to make difficult decisions. Change can be exciting and opens the door to new beginnings.
And so, for those of you that may be feeling overwhelmed and somewhat uncertain, I suggest we pause and consider that we've been presented a gift. We turn it around and inspect it from all angles, not just the one that might be the most obvious. We unwrap that gift of change carefully and consider what we're learning every single day. We realize how incredibly fortunate we are to be able to enjoy life and friends and family. Change inevitably makes us stronger.
And in the words of Kenny Cheney (yes, I'm quoting Kenny Chesney)...."Now and then I let it go, I ride the wave I can't control, I'm learnin' to build a better boat".
See you in September!
