A Message From Michelle

As many of you are aware, the Long-Term care industry is constantly under scrutiny and oftentimes criticized for the perception of poor care.  We are inspected by numerous regulatory agencies on an annual basis and must comply with standards set forth by both the Federal and State Government as well as others in the field of Compliance.  Our Personal Care was inspected in April and found to be deficiency-free.  We recently hosted the Department of Health for their annual survey in the nursing area.  The survey resulted with only one minor deficiency and I am extremely proud of the Pickering Manor staff and the care that is extended on a daily basis in both the Skilled Nursing and Personal Care areas.

Their work is providing care to moms and dads; grandparents, aunts and uncles.   It is provided daily and without fail.  Our staff is made up of Nursing, Dietary, Housekeeping & Resident Services, Maintenance, Activities, Social Services and with professional assistance from Human Resources, Marketing, Development and the Business Office.  The teamwork that takes place here ensures that our residents are well cared for; that Pickering Manor is a true home to so many; that we are humbled to work in their home and that we are grateful for the 5-star rating awarded by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).  We look forward to continuing to honor our Seniors and hope that you will share our message with friends and family!

Girl Scout Gold Award Project Benefits Pickering Residents...

Girl Scout and Yardley resident Esha Gajjar decided to take on a special challenge for her Gold Award Project.  As a volunteer at St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne, Esha has a natural gift for compassion and helping others.  When tasked with finding a suitable project for her Girl Scout Gold Award Project, the residents at Pickering Manor came to mind.  Esha went to work developing an exercise program that can be modified for all levels of mobility in seniors.  Esha knew that group exercise not only has physical benefits, but also engages seniors socially.  She first developed a rough draft of a simple exercise program that would improve range of motion and stability, then met with Pickering Manor staff to tailor it to our particular residents' needs and abilities.  With the guidance of her Gold Award Advisor, Sonia Foderano, and Pickering Manor's ADON Jacqui Bentivoglio, PC Administrator Donna Van Schaick and Restorative Aide Jonathan Perez, Esha successfully created an exercise program that can be taught to our Aides and can be used to establish a regular exercise routine for our Personal Care residents.  Last month, Esha came in and led the exercise group herself and was met with enthusiasm.

Esha says, "I chose this project because I have always enjoyed helping others as a Girl Scout.  I loved working with the staff and residents at Pickering Manor. The staff were extremely helpful, and the residents were always smiling and enthusiastic to exercise."

A pamphlet describing the exercise routine was printed and distributed to local libraries as part of the project.
