Spring 2012

The view towards the Manor

Hello

Welcome to our Spring news from Pickwell Manor. In this edition you can find out about the exciting developments in the house and grounds this winter; you can read about the great surf conditions we've had early this Spring; you can see what we've been up to at the Manor this Easter as well as finding out what availability we have still got for this Summer.

You won't recognise the place...

 The games room is down

We have continued in our efforts to lovingly and sensitively restore Pickwell Manor to its former beautiful self; whilst ensuring the interiors are as comfortable, contemporary and fresh as you have now come to expect.

Our 1960's structure that was the games room has been demolished and now forms the foundation of our newly extended car park. No excuse for getting blocked in now!

New, well-lit paths, lead up to the west wing which boasts a gorgeous new oak door entrance. Inside there is a practical space for wellies, beach shoes and coats as well as a beach-inspired lounge room with sofas, a coffee table, an original inglenook fire place and good internet access.

Our games room is important to us so will now be in a lovely big wooded shack opposite our garages. Adjoining this shack will be a wetsuit drying area and a surf board storage rack as well as a new laundry space. This will all be completed by the end of May and we can't wait for you to see it all!

Oh, and lastly, we will be putting some fabulous gates at the end of our drive but don't worry they will be open for you on the day you arrive! You can check out more of the before, during and after building photos on Susannah's blog post.

Spring in the gardens

Spring in the garden

The garden is bursting into bloom everywhere you look and the smell of spring is in the air. This phrase didn't make sense before we moved to Pickwell. However, with each season the air takes on a different fragrance and fills you with lovely memories.

We love this time of year at Pickwell when the daffodils, primroses, bluebells, blossom, camellias, catkins and pussy willow shout from every corner of the garden that winter is over. The new born lambs in the fields leap about full of life and springing with energy.

Our latest excitement in the garden is the new landscaping, path system and lighting for the West wing that has just been completed.  We hope the lavender beds will relax and welcome you to our fabulous new entrance.

Spring surfing

Spring surf

This Winter has proved to be a lot milder than last year, and consequently the sea is a few degrees warmer which has given some thoroughly enjoyable surfing sessions, with hoods off at times during every month of the year. The Spring sunshine has started to come through and combined with stronger Winter swells, the surfing conditions on North Devon's beaches have been brilliant.

Why not come down to Pickwell this Spring for a short break or longer holiday and take advantage of these lovely conditions in the sea. You can read more about the Spring surf on Steve's blog post.

Summer Availability

Welcome

With Easter behind us, the May bank holiday weekend and the Queen's Jubilee holiday just round the corner, it will be Summer before we know it. We do still have some availability for most sizes of apartment over the Summer months so don't hesitate to get in contact to enquire about what we have that may suit you.
The Easter Eggstravaganza
Easter eggstravaganza

On Easter Saturday we hosted our third 'Easter Eggstravaganza' at Pickwell. This community event is one of the highlights of our year and is now a firm fixture in the calendar.

As well as providing a great family event it also helps raise money for the village school, as well as a different charity that is elected each year. This year thanks to the wonderful help and support of so many we managed to raise over £1000.

Alongside tea and cakes on the terrace, the gardens are filled with all manner of creative stalls, art & craft activities, Easter treasure hunt, games and competitions. Amongst the stable favourites are the very competitive 'Egglympics', with the greatest level of competition coming from the mothers rather than the children! Photos to prove it can be seen on Tracey's blog post.

Perhaps the most quirky stall is the 'Human Fruit Machine' - you'll have to get along next year to see it in action!
