 MS Soccer Update

The MS soccer team is 2-0-0 with a combined score of 10-1 over the first two matches against Mountain Island and Queen's Grant. The squad is playing great soccer and - while we need to shore up some things to improve - I expect this to continue as we aim to win the conference again.

So far Colton Cox has five goals; Casey Rhodes, two; Joey Weidman, two goals; and Dylan Changel with one goal. Weidman, Changela, and Bronson Valley also have shared in many of the assists while goalkeepers, Patrick Hannagan and Charlie Trammell (who have split time between the sticks) and their defense have one clean sheet.

Volleyball Teams Collecting Dog and Cat Beds

Next week the JV and Varsity volleyball players will be collecting dog and cat beds for the Iredell Humane Society.  This is a big need for their foster families.  Beds can be dropped off at each building next week (Sept.8-12).

On Saturday, September 13, the teams will host a bake sale during the adoption fair.  All proceeds will benefit the Iredell Humane Society, 110 Robinson Road (0ff HWY 150).  Please stop by to see all the wonderful dogs and cats that need furrever homes.  Fostering is another wonderful way to help these furry babies!!  Come support our PLP volleyball team and the Iredell Humane Society.

TODAY: Varsity and J.V. Volleyball Teams Home vs. CSD

Come cheer on the Girls' Upper School Volleyball teams as they battle Community School of Davidson at our own Athletic and Community Center, TODAY, Thursday, Sept. 4.

The J.V. game tips off at 4:30 p.m. while the Varsity girls play at 6 p.m.

Gate fees are $3 for adults and students.

The PLP Volleyball Program has five new coaches that have started the year with a burst of enthusiasm for the Pride. Head Varsity Coach Jennifer Ivey stepped out of the middle school ranks to take the reigns of the Volleyball program. Her composure and experience with the Pine Lake girls has proved valuable as the girls were battle tested in their first seven contests to be ready for the SPAC conference where they lost to Cherryville in five games and to a tough Lincoln Charter team.

Other coaches new to the volleyball program include: Varsity Assistant Coach, Laura Meyerhoefer; JV Head Coach, Lauri Schatz; JV Assistant Coach, Amanda Allison; and Middle School Head Coach - Doug Deffenbaugh.

The Pine Lake Varsity football team has gotten off to a great start this season by starting 2-0 and winning its first ever varsity football game in the process.

Our team defeated Vance JV 6-0 on a Tysheem Kerns 45 yard run, and defeated Atkins High School last Friday 8-7 on a 8 yard TD pass from Harrison Hart to Joe Berg.

Please come out and support us this weekend as we play at Southlake Christian this Friday at 7:30 p.m.!

Varsity Cross-Country

Two meets so far and two trophies so far...  Our girls team has started off with a bang!  They placed 3rd out of 33  teams at the Providence Meet last weekend. Many schools were 4A and 3A schools. Sara Burkinshaw medaled coming in 6th place out of 267 Varsity runners. Lauren Rattenbury finished 32 out of 267 Varsity runners and Gabby Kolesar finished 25 out of 297 runners on JV.   Another great race was run by Andrew Guazzerotti, who finished 63 out of 266 runners on Varsity boys.

Next was NW Cabarras Meet  where our girls finished in 1st place out of 11 teams. At this meet the following girls received individual medals, as well. Sara Burkinshaw 2nd place Senior girls, Kelley Petroski- 4th place Senior girls, Lauren Rattenbury -3rd place Sophomore girls and Gabby Kolesar- 3rd place Freshmen girls.  Other great finishes were Andrew Guazzerotti finished 6th place out of junior boys. Jeffery Sisson finished 7th place out of senior boys and Abbey Packard finished 6th out of Sophomore girls.

Varsity Boys Soccer

Soccer bounced back from a 2-1 loss to Gray Stone Day with a victory at East Wilkes on Tuesday night by a score of 5-3. Senior Captain Michael Andreasen led the team with 3 goals and an assist with senior Cameron White and junior Zach Venkus adding a tally of their own.

This was the first match up for the two schools, and it was an impressive win for PLP's younger program.

Our next home game is Monday 9/8 at 4pm against York Prep.

Varsity Tennis

The US Varsity Girls' Tennis team recently won their non- conference match to Hickory Christian, but lost their non- conference match to Statesville Christian. This week on Tuesday, September  2nd we took on the Varsity team from Lincoln Charter in our first Conference match and won 7-0. The last two matches were not finished because of lightning.

This Thursday we will take on Cannon School at Cornelius Road Park. It has been extremely hot, but these girls are tough!

Cheerleaders Raising Funds

The PLP US Varsity Cheerleading team will sell personalized yard signs at a cost of $20. The yard signs will be in the shape of a football, helmet (seniors only), megaphone, and a circular shape that could be used for golf, baseball, tennis, volleyball, soccer, and softball. Each sign will have the students name, jersey number, and year. If other sports such as cross country, track, or swimming wish to purchase a sign, additional designs could be created and added.

Families will be encouraged to display the signs in their yard on games days. Additionally, we would like to display the signs around the circle for special games such as homecoming and senior night.

See Alyssa Darnell ([email protected]) at the Lower School or Gretchen Little ([email protected]) at the Upper School to place an order.
