Bus Update

school_bus.jpg

You love the buses - you really, love the buses! The afternoon buses are full, and there is a wait list for two of the routes.

As for the morning buses, the 7:10 a.m. and 7:25 a.m. are picking up steam and have about 35-45 riders on each. There is a LOT of room on the 7:00 a.m. bus. We need to see more participation on this bus to be able to continue the route leaving The Cove at 7 a.m. - please spread the word to Upper School students and Middle School students who start classes at 7:20 a.m.!

After School Explorations

Kaleidi's Explorations program gives students a chance to participate in a chosen program for a six week session.  Our offerings include Art, Dance, Sports, STEM, Piano, Show Choir, Karate, Chess and more!  Every session, we try to vary what we are offering to give variety to families.

Please see the PLP website for more information and descriptions of our Quarter 1 offerings.

Important information regarding Kaleidi Explorations:

  • The cost per student for each six week Exploration will vary by the class.  Some of the classes use a lot of supplies!   All fees will be non-refundable.
  • All participants will pay a one-time, non-refundable registration fee of $10.00 (one time per year - not per session).
  • Registration forms and fees will be remitted directly to Rebecca Stratford at the Lower School; checks are to be made payable to Pine Lake Preparatory.  Explorations will meet Monday through Thursday on a designated day, in the Lower School. Children are to report to the Lower School Lobby for their Exploration.  All children must be picked up no later than 4:00 in a carline fashion at the Lower School.  During pick up, you may remain in the car, and the Exploration Leaders will walk your children out to you.
  • In the event that an Explorations Leader must miss a scheduled class for illness or other emergency, he or she will be expected to make up the class during the current session.  The Explorations Leader will contact families directly advising of the cancellation and rescheduled date.  We will attempt to reschedule classes missed due to inclement weather; if a class cannot be rescheduled, no refund will be provided.  In the event the student cannot attend the rescheduled date, no refund will be provided.
  • You do not have to participate in Kaleidi Extended Day Program to take part in Explorations.  All registration is first come, first served.
  • We do have minimums and maximums for class sizes.  If a class is full, or does not have enough participants, your check will be returned to you. You will receive this notification via email.

Each Exploration session will consist of six weeks.  The schedule for the first session is as follows:

Session 1:        September 8 - October 17

Registration:    August 25 - September 4

If you have any questions, please contact Rebecca Stratford ([email protected]).

New Staff Member Highlight: Mrs. Anna Bulfin, Upper School Counselor

My name is Anna Bulfin and I am passionate about helping teenagers!

My personal mission is to graduate young adults who are well-adjusted, self-aware, socially and culturally responsible, and have a vision of themselves contributing to their communities in a positive way.

As the Upper School Counselor, my job is to help students be successful at school. This means I will work with students in the areas of academic, personal/social, and career development in order to help them achieve greater success at school. Although I work with a variety of people-students, parents, families, APs, community members-my #1 priority is to advocate for my students' best interests. I may work with students in a variety of ways: through classroom guidance lessons, school-wide activities, small groups, field trips and individual counseling sessions.

My credentials: Within the context of counseling, I have worked with students from a full range of K-12 groups, both in a school setting and mental health/agency setting. I have served in Lincoln County Schools, Gaston County private mental health services, Charlotte private schools, and other schools from various counties when serving students in the agency setting. I love working with teenagers and am blessed to be a part of the PLP community!

My experience: I am a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and am licensed by the state of North Carolina. I have a master's degree in School Counseling from North Carolina Central University, a graduate program accredited by the American Counseling Association's Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), the nationally recognized accrediting agency for counseling graduate programs. I also have a bachelor's degree in Psychology from North Carolina State University. I am an American School Counseling Association (ASCA) member as well as a North Carolina School Counseling Association (NCSCA) member and am continuing to develop the PLP Upper School Counseling Program in alignment with the ASCA National Model for School Counseling Programs.
