Pioneer Days  Open House at TOS
Sunday August 27th

The Open Studio will be participating in the Pioneer Days festivities this year and for our part will host an Open House on the grounds at 380 Old Englewood Road.

The Open House will be held  Sunday, August 27, from  11am to 4pm. Many activities are being planned for the day! We will kick it off with a large Art Sale of Pottery and Paintings at  11am  from our Art Gallery. We will also have representation from some of the vendors who participate in our seasonal Sunday Artisans Market, so there will be a lot to look at if you want to get a early jump on some Christmas shopping or just something new to display in your home. There will also be plants for sale from our nursery.
A Yoga exhibition will be held on our back yard stage at  1pm and will be followed by an acoustic duo "and friends" playing a variety of music, for about an hour or so.

All Open Studio businesses will be present and able to discuss what they have going on with their business and any upcoming classes that they have.  It should be a fun day, with lots going on so mark it on your calendar and come by to see us.  Please help spread the word by sharing our Facebook event!

TOS Open House Sunday Aug 27th 2:30pm

The acoustic duo Bucket List was recently formed by Rick Holt and Bill Lundgren, the two guitarists from the electric band Almost Good Enough. Rick and Bill have done acoustic performances at TOS on numerous occasions during the Emerging Artisans Program last year, and will continue to do so this year as well. Their guitar styles and diverse musical interests make for a wide-ranging playlist, covering the classic rock and blues genres, adapted to two acoustic guitars. Bucket List will perform on the Stage in The Open Studio gardens starting at  2:30pm .

Musical Tribute Walls Complete

Just in time for the TOS Open House!

Two wing walls for The Open Studio outdoor stage have been erected as a tribute to Adam Filock.  Adam is the son of Jeff and Peggy Filock, who passed away at the age of 17 after a skiing accident.

Adam was a great musician, student, friend, brother, and son. The guitar, designed by Jeff Filock, is a replica of one of the many guitars Adam played. In Western NY, where Adam grew up, an Excellence in Character Scholarship in his name is given each year to a graduating senior.

This fall, lights and sound will be added to the walls to further enhance live performances that are offered at TOS.

The metal sculptures were created and donated by local artist, Laurie O'Gara.

Beat the Heat with our Summer Special ~  20 Days for $20

We have three classes back on the schedule for pre-season: Restorative Yoga, Yoga for Every Body and Stress Release Stretching.   Click here for class time or to register.   Our regular schedule will resume in October.

Our bodies are working hard to deal with the higher temperatures and longer days, here are some Ayurveda and Yoga tips for a happy Florida summer:
  • Eat a variety juicy, seasonal fruits and vegetables either raw or lightly cooked and allow plenty of time for digestion between meals
  • Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, favor limes instead of lemons and try rose or fennel tea, all are cooling to the body
  • Practice gentle and/or slower paced yoga, preferably earlier in the morning, with cooling poses such as forward folds and side bends
  • find time in the afternoon when the sun is at it's highest for a little quiet time, meditation and/or breathing practice
Check out our September workshops!
Yoga for Beginners: Runs for 4 weeks, starting on Monday, September 4th from 5:30 to 6:30pm.
Chair Yoga: Runs for 7 weeks, starting on Thursday September 14th from 2 to 3pm.

Update on the "Women of the World" Project
by Sherry O'Connell

For those of you who have been watching as each Woman comes out of the kiln, here they are!

The final count is 14. Each one represents a different culture composite. They all come together and bond to make this world a better place by sharing their love, compassion, kindness, encouragement, support, strength and leadership abilities. Now the work begins on the display and background, I am trying my hand at water color; world map was a first attempt. Thanks to all who have encouraged me all the way. Sherry
