An Evening in the Valtellina
Celebrating the Wines of Rainoldi
Pizzeria Mozza's Jack Warner Room
Tuesday, May 22nd - 7:30PM
$150 - inclusive of tax & gratuity
Please join us on Tuesday, May 22nd as we shed some light on the dazzling-and criminally underappreciated-Nebbiolo-based wines of the Rainoldi family. Located a stone's throw from the Swiss border, in the picturesque alpine zone known as the Valtellina, Casa Vinicola Giuseppe Rainoldi has been making wines since the mid-1920s, and has been known as the foremost producer of quality in the area for some decades now.
The Valtellina is an unforgiving place to grow grapes: this far north, and at such high altitudes, it's crucial to expose the vines to every inch of sunlight and warmth they can get. To this end, vineyards are steeply terraced, requiring hand-harvesting and meticulous attention to ensure full ripeness. Rainoldi is one of the most experienced producers on these precipitous slopes, and as such their wines display a finesse and complexity uncommonly seen in the area. To put it plainly, the wines just sing.
For this special evening, we have secured a range of rare older Rainoldi: matched verticals stretching from 1997 to 2002, comprised of Riserva bottlings of the Sassella and Inferno crus, as well as the rare Fruttaio Ca' Rizzieri Sfursat. In addition, we'll taste through the range of current releases. Twenty-two wines in all, paired with five Nebbiolo-inspired courses from 2012 James Beard Award-winning chef Matt Molina...
It promises to be a memorable night. Please join us!
