Measurement Matters:
Better Data for Better Decisions
The APPAM Fall Research Conference has long been the place to learn the latest in evidence-based research. The 2017 Fall Research Conference will focus on the importance of data and measurement, and celebrate the government staff who work to improve the measures we use every day.

In light of the publication of the Commission on Evidence-Based Policymaking Report last month, please browse the conference sessions that will touch on issues raised by this important report .

Plan Ahead For the Institutional Membership Meeting

Join other Institutional Representatives for your annual membership meeting. Breakfast will be served. An agenda and any supporting documents will be sent prior to the meeting. APPAM institutional member include schools, foundations, government agencies, nonprofit and for-profit organizations and research organizations.

PhD Program Directors:
Be Sure to Include These Events on Your Conference Schedule
Policy PhD Program Directors Meeting
Thursday, November 2, 8:30 am - 10:00 am

Please join us for the 2nd policy PhD Program Directors meeting to take place during the 2017 Fall Research Conference. This meeting will provide an opportunity to connect with others in the field who are facing similar challenges to identify and discuss helpful solutions to some of today's most pressing challenges as a program director.
 
All attendees are welcome at the meeting; however discussion will focus on the topics such as comprehensive and qualifying exam formats, required/core courses, professional development opportunities & recruitment, and how to better prepare PhD students for the academic job market.
 
PhD Program Fair
Friday, November 3, 12:00 pm - 1:15 pm | Crystal A, Hyatt Regency Chicago
The PhD Program Fair is a great opportunity for individuals interested in a PhD degree to make connections with institutions offering PhD programs. Select APPAM Institutional Members who offer a PhD program will be onsite to discuss the benefits of their programs with the registered attendees.
While this event is free to attend, tickets for this event must be reserved through the registration process. The 2017 PhD Program Fair is open only to students not currently enrolled in a PhD program and professionals who do not hold a PhD.

APPAM Members in the News
Faculty and students from multiple APPAM member schools received awards Outstanding Achievement in Public Service at NASPAA's national conference. The schools include the Victoria University of Wellington, University of Texas at Dallas, Arizona State University and Georgia Tech University. See the full list of award recipients here.
