GPT is Poised for More Cargo Growth

GPT cargo operator, Gulf Coast International Cargo (GCIC), is moving forward as they import more fresh fruit by ocean from Central America and anticipate cargo flights in 2012. "It's great for the consumer. Great for the State of Mississippi. Great for Gulfport, Biloxi, the entire coast. We're sitting on the number two banana and fresh fruit port in the country. Now it's time to bring in some other fruits to help compliment that," said Mike Alise, Vice President of GCIC.

GCIC offers a state of the art facility and has been designated as a TSA certified cargo screening facility. To learn more about GCIC, click here.

Fueled By the Fallen Memorial Car Honor Tour

On October 5, 2011, the "Fueled By The Fallen Memorial Car Honor Tour" stopped by Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport during the annual Cruisin' the Coast.  Five cars honoring the lives lost during 9/11 were on display directly in front of the terminal building.  Fueled By The Fallen assists in supporting military members, public safety personnel, and their families to aid in their emotional, physical, and financial recovery needs by displaying and racing the memorial race cars. This organization was founded by Kevyn Major Howard who starred in the movie, "Full Metal Jacket." Visit their site online to learn more about the "Fueled By The Fallen Memorial Car Honor Tour."

Biloxi Lighthouse Replica & Marlin Miller Exhibit Unveiling

On November 16, 2011, Mayor Holloway unveiled a Biloxi lighthouse replica outside the main terminal at GPT. The lighthouse replica, a Biloxi Bay Chamber initiative, is a recognizable cultural symbol of the MS Gulf Coast.

Marlin Miller was also at the airport to present his new open floor exhibit.  His work consists of several unique large wood sculptures.  Detailed information is also provided showcasing his sculpture locations along the MS Gulf Coast.

The Airport Art Program allows for a means to enhance the experience of airport users, showcase and educate visitors and locals on the cultural heritage, and showcase the artistic development of the MS Gulf Coast Region.  "Marlin Miller's amazing work on the MS Gulf Coast is perfectly aligned with the purpose and intent of our Airport Art Program," said Airport Commissioner Frank Genzer.  To learn more about opportunities to be featured in the Airport Art Program, please visit us online.

Continental/United Merger

Passengers will soon see United Airlines' logos replacing those of Continental Airlines at GPT as a result of their merger. United and Continental expect to transition to a single reservations system by late first quarter of 2012. Airport officials consider this merger a positive change for our community providing greater worldwide access for our passengers and new opportunities for additional air service.

Continental's OnePass frequent flier members will be automatically enrolled in United Airlines' MileagePlus program. For more information on MileagePlus, click here

United Airlines and US Airways are currently the only two airlines at GPT who belong to the same alliance, Star Alliance. This means that customers are able to earn the same miles on either airline and their elite status is honored by both. For example, passengers can fly on US Airways and earn United Airlines' miles and vice versa. So whether you are a member of United's MileagePlus program or US Airways' Dividend Miles program, you can fly either airline and earn miles through your preferred program.

GPT has also partnered with Thanks Again to offer a rewards program where you can earn even more miles on your preferred carrier when you shop, dine and park at GPT. For more information and to sign up, visit us at www.flyGPTrewards.com.

GPT is Station of the Month - AGAIN!
