Greetings!
It's been a challenging week.
Just getting to Nashville, Tennessee to participate in the 2012 Elementary National Championships was much more difficult than expected.
The first plane we boarded had engine trouble (definitely not a good way to start the trip!) We then ended up on another flight and missed our originally scheduled connecting flight and had to de plane in Huntsville Alabama (the people there were great!) and take a 2 hour bus drive into Nashville.
There were 22 of us altogether, 12 players, 3 coaches, 1 principal and 6 awesome teacher chaperones, and after about 12+ hours of continuous travelling we were all REALLY HAPPY to see the hotel.
The tournament began on Friday and after a decent first round where we won 9 games and lost 3, we lost every game the second round. Again - not a good way to start!
However, the team rose to the challenge and by the end of the tournament - we ended up in 2nd place overall in one section (for the 2nd year in a row! ).
We had 3 players win individual trophies for achieving top 10 performances at their first ever national tournament, (6th, 9th and 10th overall) and we placed 15th out 58 teams in the other section we played in and won a (much smaller) trophy there as well.
All in all, a pretty good way to end a rough beginning. I'm REALLY proud of the way the team and staff rolled with the punches and made lemonade of lemons. Everyone was truly great and demonstrated a lot of strong character - especially the players! I can't wait to add the 5 new trophies to the shop - especially the big purple and gold one!
